I thought I was building a beauty business.

Turns out, I accidentally built a front-row seat to people's lives ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Every day people walk through my door carrying stories.....some funny, some heartbreaking, some hopeful, some years in the making.

This week was a bride counting down to her wedding (today... congrats!!!), college friends reuniting after 30 years, a birthday celebration marked with matching anklets, and a woman finding a little confidence again after an wild accident resulting in half of her eyelashes being burned off ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

People are fascinating.

I just happen to have the best seat in the house.

๐‚๐š๐ง ๐ˆ ๐ญ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐š ๐ฌ๐ž๐œ๐ซ๐ž๐ญ? ๐€๐ฅ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฒ๐›๐จ๐๐ฒ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ฌ๐œ๐š๐ซ๐ž๐.

I hear some version of โ€œIโ€™m nervousโ€ almost EVERY day.

Whether itโ€™s brows, eyeliner, lips, a piercing, people will apologize for being afraid. Theyโ€™ll tell me theyโ€™re being dramatic, embarrassed, or that they donโ€™t know why theyโ€™re so anxious.

But fear is normal!!!

Youโ€™re choosing to do something new. Your brain is doing exactly what itโ€™s designed to do: protect you. It doesnโ€™t always know the difference between danger and simply doing something unfamiliar.

The funny thing is, confidence usually doesnโ€™t come first. Most people donโ€™t walk through my door feeling brave. They walk through my door feeling scaredโ€ฆ and do it anyway.

Thatโ€™s why my studio motto is:
๐ƒ๐จ ๐ข๐ญ ๐ฌ๐œ๐š๐ซ๐ž๐!!!! ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—

Because if we all waited until we werenโ€™t scared, weโ€™d never do half the things weโ€™re proud of.

(And for what itโ€™s worth, the people who tell me theyโ€™re nervous are usually the same people who leave saying, โ€œThat wasnโ€™t nearly as bad as I thought it would be.โ€ โค๏ธ)

So if youโ€™ve been thinking about it, worrying about it, overthinking it, or talking yourself out of itโ€ฆ Come scared. Everybody else does too ๐Ÿ˜Š

A lot of women are carrying victories nobody celebrates because nobody saw the battle ๐Ÿฅน

This week, I tattooed beautiful Nikki who talked about where sheโ€™s been, where she is now, and the life sheโ€™s worked hard to build. I wonโ€™t tell her story because itโ€™s hers to tell, but I left that appointment thinking about how resilient women can be.

They survive things. They rebuild. They keep showing up for their families, their kids, their jobs, and the people they love, even when life hasnโ€™t exactly been gentle with them!!!

As a social worker, I saw it every day. As a tattoo artist, I still do.

Women are pretty damn incredible ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—

We covered an old eyeliner tattoo and gave her a dramatic upper liner with a soft purple halo, plus upper and lower liner for extra definition.

Is it for everyone? Nope.
Was it absolutely perfect for her? Yep.

You know youโ€™re a millennial when somebody says, โ€œJust grow your brows back out,โ€ and your eye twitches a little ๐Ÿ˜‚ If they were going to grow back, they probably wouldโ€™ve done it by now.

A client came in today with the classic 2000s brow story. Years of tweezing, years of thin brows, and everyone telling her to just leave them alone and let them grow.

The problem? They were growingโ€ฆ just not where we needed them to. Years of over-tweezing can permanently damage hair follicles, which is why some people never get that full brow back no matter how patient they are.

So instead of waiting for a miracle, we worked with what she had!!

One of my favorite parts of cosmetic tattooing is helping women stop fighting features that arenโ€™t a personal failure. Sometimes the answer isnโ€™t trying harder. Sometimes the answer is having the right tools.

Millennials, we survived low-rise jeans and overplucked brows. Weโ€™re allowed to get a little help now!! ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ™ƒ
