In honor of National Cancer Research Month, we're sharing Tony's story!

"They were able to pull me through, give me access to a clinical trial, that thank goodness I was able to get into!" says Tony. "The clinical trials offered to me locally are world-class, and they give me the comfort that I need to live my life."

At UCBC, we approach clinical trial opportunities as an extension of patient care, incorporating them whenever evidence suggests there could be benefit towards an individual’s treatment and recovery. Learn more about our approach and active clinical trials here: https://bit.ly/3QzNIOQ

For cancer patients with already compromised immune systems, what starts as a minor medical issue can rapidly escalate into an emergency requiring care from a team of dedicated professionals familiar with managing the side effects and complications of cancer and cancer treatment.

At UCBC, our Acute Care Clinic offers our patients timely, often same-day service to minimize unnecessary emergency room or urgent care visits.

This clinic serves to reduce wait times, institute oncology triage algorithms, reduce hospital admissions, and prevent patients with cancer from being exposed to infectious diseases in emergency waiting rooms.

Please call the Clinic at (706) 353-2990 if you are experiencing adverse symptoms after cancer treatment you’ve received at University Cancer & Blood Center to coordinate an appointment.

In honor of Clinical Trials Day as well as National Cancer Research Month, we wanted to take a moment to highlight the importance of Clinical Research!

At UCBC, we’re proud to play a vital role in helping to advance cancer treatment through clinical research. As one of the most prolific clinical trial facilities in Georgia, we're proud to be a part of a global community of researchers, collectively working towards a common goal.

“Clinical Research is of paramount importance as it drives scientific progress, shapes treatment paradigms, improves patient outcomes, and paves the way for a future where cancer is better understood, preventable, and curable," says Dr. Petros G. Nikolinakos, Medical Oncologist/Hematologist, Managing Partner, and Director of Research at UCBC. "Every treatment available today is a testament to the importance of Clinical Research.”
