Starting a palate expander? Here's what to expect.
The first few days may feel a little awkward as your child gets used to the appliance, and speech might sound slightly different at first. With consistent turns as directed, most kids adjust quickly. It's also normal to feel some mild pressure after each turn, and many patients develop a small gap between their front teeth during treatment. That's actually a sign the expander is working as intended.
