**EXCUSE MY VOICE, I WAS GETTING OVER A COLD
5 Things I Wish Every Pregnant Mom Knew Before Labor”
If you’re pregnant, I need you to know these things BEFORE you go into labor.
Number one: Labor can take time.
Especially if this is your first baby. Early labor can last for hours, and sometimes longer. You don’t have to spend every contraction watching the clock. If you can rest, REST. Eat if your provider says it’s okay, hydrate, take a shower, watch a movie—save some of that energy for later.
Number two: MOVE your body.
You do not have to spend your entire labor lying in the bed. Walk, sway, use the birth ball, get on your hands and knees, change positions. And even if you have an epidural, there are positions we can use in the bed to help keep your body moving.
Number three: You can ask questions.
If someone recommends an intervention, it is okay to ask, “Why are we doing this?” “What are the benefits?” “What are the risks?” and “Do we have other options?”
Unless there’s an emergency, give yourself an opportunity to understand what’s happening and be a part of the decisions about your care.
Number four: REST is part of labor, too.
You don’t have to bounce on a ball for 12 hours! 😂 If your body gives you an opportunity to sleep, close your eyes. Labor is work, and you may need that energy later when things get more intense.
And number five: Your birth does not have to look like anybody else’s.
Maybe you want an unmedicated birth. Maybe you want the epidural. Maybe you’re being induced. Maybe you’re planning a VBAC. Birth can change course—and that’s okay.
The goal isn’t to have the “perfect” birth.
I want you to walk away feeling like you were informed, supported, listened to, and an active participant in bringing your baby into the world.
Save this and send it to a pregnant mama who needs to hear it!
