INTERVIEW QUESTION: βWhy are you leaving your current role?β
This question comes up in almost every interview, and HOW you answer matters.
What are some of the answers you give when a potential employer asks why youβre leaving your current position?
A few strong answers:
βIβm looking for more opportunities for professional growth and advancement.β
βIβve learned a lot in my current position, but Iβm ready for a role that offers new challenges.β
βIβm looking for a position that better aligns with my long-term career goals.β
βIβm ready to expand my skills and take on greater responsibilities.β
βIβve reached a point where advancement opportunities are limited in my current organization.β
βIβm looking for an opportunity where I can contribute my experience while continuing to grow professionally.β
βIβm interested in transitioning into a different area of the industry, and this position aligns with the direction I want my career to take.β
One thing I would NOT recommend is spending the interview talking negatively about your current employer, manager, coworkers, workload, or workplace drama.
Even when those things are the REAL reason youβre leaving, you can answer truthfully without making the interview about everything that went wrong.
Turn your reason for leaving into a conversation about where youβre trying to GO.
Now Iβm curious: Whatβs your go-to answer when an interviewer asks, βWhy are you leaving your current position?β
