Meher Fund’s sole purpose is to support the Meher Free Dispensary at Meherazad, near Ahmednagar in rural western India.

The Dispensary has provided free medical care for the poor and under-served of this area since 1970.

On April 16th 2024, Haribhau Vishwanath Jadhav, a 60-year-old man arrived at the Meher Free Dispensary to receive support for his heart disease. Six months prior, he was hospitalized for a heart attack but couldn't afford complete treatment due to the high cost of medication.

Haribhau and his wife traveled 60 km to seek treatment. The journey in car and on foot exhausted their limited funds. With no money to return home, they spent the night at a nearby temple in Pimpalgaon Malvi.

At the Meher Free Dispensary, he received free lab tests and heart disease medication. Overjoyed to receive the necessary medication without burdening his finances, Haribhau expressed relief, saying, “Now I don't have to worry about spending on medicine."

Late last year, a free camp for testing bone density was organized at the Meher Free Dispensary. The test was conducted by a team from Zandu, one of the leading Ayurvedic pharmaceutical companies in India. 100 MFD patients over the age of 40 years old were tested. Calcium supplements were prescribed for the patients whose bone density was below normal.

Meher Free Dispensary continues to provide free medical services to its patients. Medical Services provided include medical examinations, diagnostic tests in our in-house laboratory, medicines, dressings and injections, referrals of patients recommended by our doctors for specialized consultations and diagnostic tests costs all of which are fully compensated to the patient, referrals of patients requiring hospitalization and surgery for which they are partly or fully compensated depending upon the individual circumstances of each patient. In addition, special clinics are held for diabetic and epileptic patients.

Meher Free Dispenary patient Parigabai Eknath Gaikwad was the sole supporter of her two daughters, Savita and Sangita. When her daughters were born, Parigabai used to work in agriculture, and whenever farm work was not available, she would go to houses to wash dishes and earn money to support her family.

Parigabail now 75, lives with her two daughters in an area near Ahmednagar. Several years ago Parigabai suffered from mild paralysis so her daughters brought her to the Meher Free Dispensary for treatment and medication. Within a few days her health condition improved. However, recently Parigabai became paralyzed again and was unable to move both her arms and legs, so her daughter immediately brought Parigabai back to the Meher Free Dispensary for treatment.

Thanks to the amazing services provided by MFD, Parigabai’s health condition is improving and she can now walk a little with the help of a walker.
