Beyond the Why: Practical Strategies for Engaging Employers and Commercial Health Plans

Public health professionals generally understand why working with employers and commercial health plans matters. As the focus on sustainability of programs grows, it is time to revisit how commercial reimbursement can support work across chronic conditions. This session moves beyond the rationale of why this matters and focuses on how to successfully engage. The expert panel will share how public health agencies can begin or enhance this work, communicate in ways that resonate with business, build on existing assets, and leverage key partners and influencers to make meaningful connections.

Generate, Educate, Activate, Respond (GEAR) Groups are peer-to-peer, case-based, action learning opportunities for state and territorial chronic disease practitioners.

This session on Reimagining Prevention will explore new models and innovative strategies to address chronic disease prevention for the 21st century. The role of new technologies such as telehealth and GLP-1 medications, as well as the potential of cross-sector partnerships and novel funding strategies, will be key areas of focus.

The group will meet virtually on four consecutive Wednesdays (September 2, 9, 16 and 23).

🌟 Member Spotlight: Nicole Sinderman

As students head back to school this month, it’s an especially timely opportunity to highlight work that supports student health in school settings. We’re pleased to feature NACDD Member Nicole Sinderman, To***co Prevention and Control Program Manager with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

✔️ Among her current priorities: Advancing efforts to prevent and reduce youth to***co use
✔️ A key focus area: Supporting schools as an important setting for prevention and intervention
✔️ Why it matters: Missouri youth to***co use rates remain higher than national averages

"We are concerned about Missouri’s youth to***co use rates; we’re falling behind the rest of the country. Nearly a quarter of Missouri youth (24%) have smoked a cigarette compared with 14% of national youth. 21% of Missouri youth currently v**e compared with 17% of national youth. In response to this, our program will provide more support to schools to address youth use in the school environment through a new program in partnership with NACDD, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Missouri Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics."

Nicole underscores the importance of strengthening school-based supports to better prevent and reduce youth to***co use.

If You Build It, Will They Come? A Community-Clinical Linkage Model for Arthritis Care

During this Chronic Disease Connect webinar, subject matter experts will introduce the Public Health Framework for Collaborative Osteoarthritis Management and Wellbeing and share how one Community Care Hub put the model into practice.

Participants will examine findings from the pilot evaluation, including what the data revealed and the questions that remain unanswered. The session will conclude with a discussion of how Learning Health Networks can support scaling the model beyond pilot sites and the functions and conditions needed for successful expansion.
