Mammogram guidelines vary between various groups but I go by the American Cancer Society’s recommendation:

For average risk individuals:

Yearly mammogram starting at age 40 through age 55

For age 55 - 75, yearly or every other year based on shared decision making.

Age 75+ stop screening or choose to continue based on shared decision making.

For high risk individuals: earlier start based on shared decision making and/or specialist referral

Wake up babe, new ferritin guidelines for diagnosing iron deficiency just dropped!

Children aged 9 months to 4 years: 20 ng/mL or lower

Adults, and menstruating or pregnant individuals: 30 ng/ml or lower

High-risk groups, including individuals with heavy menstrual bleeding and pregnant individuals with anemia: 50 ng/mL or lower

Adults with inflammation, including those with cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, or infectious disease: serum ferritin under 100 ng/mL

I had the pleasure of presenting alongside some amazing colleagues at the 2026 US Conference on HIV/AIDS!

We discussed implementation strategies for long acting injectable HIV treatment and prevention options in every setting from private practices to FQHCs to hospital systems to street medicine.

LAIs are the way of the future but access often lags behind the science. As more and more options become available, we have to make sure innovation doesn’t outpace access.

Long-acting HIV treatment and prevention can change the way we think about care, but only if we build the systems, workflows, education, and infrastructure needed to actually get these tools into the hands of the people who need them.

The future of HIV care is here. Now we have to make it accessible.
