d. As a child, she found herself most in tune by participating in dance. Later, after a few failed high school attempts, she found her love for the practice of yoga in college when it helped her through her parents’ divorce, personal heartbreak, and family struggles with addiction. Since 2009, Kelsey Reed has been an avid yoga practitioner and health advocate. In 2012 she received her RYT-200 from Asheville Community Yoga Center, has since earned her E-RYT, with over 2500 hours of experience, and is level 1 certified in Trauma-Informed Yoga. Growing up, I was taught that success is being able to buy or have anything you want. I’ve learned over the years I’ve had to redefine what success means to me. Yoga was never about making money, it was about helping people be the best version of themselves. 💗

Success to me:
is the student who doesn’t get up from 𝓈𝒶𝓋𝒶𝓈𝒶𝓃𝒶 because they feel so peaceful.
is helping people feel resilient.
is the feeling I get when someone tells me my class spoke to them.
is seeing someone get a crow pose for the first time
>>> and know that crow pose represents so much more than just their physical strength.
is less about full classes and more about full hearts.

It’s taken a lot to get here.

I was bullied a lot as a kid for being little. I’ve always struggled with my weight because of it. It took finding the practice of yoga to make me feel safe and confident in my body again. And at first, it DID come a place of ego— like “wow, I’m really naturally good at this.” But over the years, I care less about the poses I do in a class and more about how I feel after. Yoga fuels my inner Champion and reminds me that indeed, I actually AM powerful. And there is an inner beauty in that power that exceeds what any handstand could make me feel. 💞

Here are 3 things my husband and I do to maintain connection, intimacy, and safety:
1. We both attend individual therapy. Thai really helps us each to maintain focus on cleaning up our own side of the road, instead of leaning towards blaming the other.
2. We maintain financial freedom and choices outside of our marriage. Yes, we have a joint bank account— but it’s not where every single penny goes. We both still have our own money to spend how we want.
3. We do intentional emotional check ins. We set aside time to be together (without screens) and talk about our internal landscape with one another. When we’re feeling off kilter, we come up with a plan TOGETHER about how to get back on track.
