Above and Beyond: Early Interventions Improving Outcomes

RN Care Manger, Kathy had been visiting Mrs. Albert routinely in her memory care. She noticed Mrs. Albert had been a bit more confused than usual and had increased agitation. She decided to see if Mrs. Albert might have a UTI - a common cause for these symptoms. She was able to get her to an urgent care, which confirmed a UTI and got a course of antibiotics to start the same day. Mrs. Albert's family was grateful that Kathy's observations and early intervention prevented a possible hospitalization and further decline.

A vital piece of information for family caregivers!

Paying a family caregiver may be reasonable, but undocumented payments can become a planning problem later.

An aging parent can often pay an adult child for real caregiving services, but the arrangement should be documented rather than handled as unexplained transfers.

A written caregiver agreement can describe duties, compensation, timing, and recordkeeping. Keep care logs and payment records, and address tax questions with the appropriate professional. Documentation can also reduce family conflict and become important if Medicaid planning is later needed.

If caregiving has become regular enough to feel like a job, document the arrangement before large payments begin and request a complimentary 15-minute strategy session below.
