Building Confidence Through Fitness: Brian’s Story

During his time at Eastpointe, Brian Gorsegner has discovered just how powerful exercise can be—not only for physical health, but also for mental well-being.

At 43, the familiar advice about exercise, proper sleep, and healthy eating took on new meaning for Brian. One year ago, he experienced such an intense panic attack before a flight that he had to be escorted off the plane before takeoff. Although he was taking medication that he felt good about, he realized he wasn’t caring for himself in some of the most fundamental ways.

A few months later, Brian joined Eastpointe and began training with Julia and Izzy. It didn’t take long for the missing piece of the puzzle to fall into place. Regular workouts inspired him to eat better, improved his sleep, and helped him establish a healthier daily routine.

This past July—exactly one year after that frightening experience—Brian boarded his first flight and crushed it! The trip went so well that, after returning home, he and his family booked a European vacation.

In just seven months, Brian went from believing he might never travel again to feeling stronger, healthier, and more confident—both mentally and physically.

For Brian, committing to fitness has been a true game changer. He is incredibly grateful to Julia, Izzy, and the entire Eastpointe team for helping him get back on track and return to living a healthier, fuller life.

From Your Nutritionist, Katy

You’re working out consistently, eating “pretty healthy,” and still not seeing the results you want? Your nutrition may be the missing piece.

Here are 5 common mistakes that could be slowing your progress:

1. Not eating enough protein

Protein supports muscle recovery, helps maintain lean muscle, and keeps you feeling full. Try including a protein source at every meal.

2. Skipping meals or eating too little

Eating as little as possible isn’t always the answer. Undereating can leave you tired, overly hungry, and more likely to overeat later.

3. Forgetting about the extras

Dressings, oils, sauces, specialty coffees, snacks, and “just a handful” of something can add up. You don't have to track every calorie, just start paying attention.

4. Being too strict during the week

Eating perfectly Monday through Friday and then treating the weekend as a free-for-all can make it difficult to reach your goals. You don't need to eliminate your favorite foods; you need balance and consistency.

5. Trying to change everything at once

A complete diet overhaul rarely lasts. Instead, focus on one or two realistic habits and build from there.

The Bottom Line

Getting results isn't about eating perfectly or spending more hours at the gym. It's about finding a nutrition approach that works for you and that you can actually maintain.

If you're putting in the work but aren't seeing the progress you want, a personalized nutrition consultation can help identify what's holding you back and create a realistic plan based on your goals.

Instructor Spotlight – August 2026
Meet Diane Bartell — Feel Stronger, Move Better. Enjoy Your Workout

If you've been showing up, giving it your best, and still not seeing the changes you want — you are exactly who I'm here for.

I've spent over a decade helping people who feel stuck finally see and feel real progress — in their body and their mindset, as a wellness coach, trainer, group fitness and yoga instructor. With certifications and training in yoga (300-hr YTT), pilates (Equinox) and athletic conditioning NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine); coupled with a BS in physiology, I work with people on multiple levels — because real transformation doesn't just happen in the body. It happens in how you think, how you feel, and how you show up for yourself.

In class, that philosophy comes to life. In Yoga we breathe, we flow, we slow down enough to actually hear what your body needs. In Pilates we zero in on core strength, stability, and balance — using weights, rings, and balls to build a strong, steady foundation from the inside out. Every class is open-level, with modifications to meet you where you are. And with playlists that span every genre, you will never be bored.

Beyond the mat, you'll find me leading workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions — because wellness doesn't stop when the class is over.

Group fitness classes are a great way to challenge yourself in a supportive community of mixed-level participants — no stress, no judgment, just real results.

📅 Yoga — Mondays at 10 AM

📅 Pilates — Saturdays at 9 AM

You will also see me around at other times teaching for EP group fitness instructors, because honestly I love the community and energy at EPH&F.

Come invest in yourself. Be consistent. Trust the process. You'll feel the difference. Can’t wait to see you in class.

Nutrition Still Matters While Taking GLP-1 Medications

From Your Nutritionist, Katy

GLP-1 medications have become an effective tool for weight loss, but they are only one part of the equation. Nutrition plays a critical role in preserving muscle mass, meeting nutrient needs, and supporting long-term success.

Because these medications reduce appetite, many people unintentionally eat too little protein or skip meals altogether. Over time, this can contribute to muscle loss, fatigue, and difficulty meeting vitamin and mineral needs. Focusing on protein, staying hydrated, and choosing nutrient-dense foods can help support overall health while losing weight.

The goal isn't simply eating less, it's eating well. Building sustainable habits during treatment can also make it easier to maintain progress over time.

Whether you're considering a GLP-1 medication or are already taking one, individualized nutrition guidance can help ensure your eating plan supports your health and weight-loss goals. Contact the front desk or click here to schedule a complimentary consultation with our Nutrition Department and take the next step toward your health goals.

Instructor Spotlight

Inspiring Strength, Confidence, and Community for Over 25 Years

This month, we are proud to shine our Instructor Spotlight on Grace Lang, a beloved and dedicated member of the Eastpointe fitness community for more than 25 years.

Grace’s journey in fitness began at the front desk, where she quickly discovered a passion for health, wellness, and helping others feel their best. That passion soon led her into the studio, where she began teaching group fitness classes, including spin and body sculpt. In 2005, Grace further expanded her expertise by becoming a certified personal trainer, strengthening her ability to support members with safe, effective, and motivating workouts.

Grace’s mission is simple but powerful: to help her clients stay motivated, mobile, strong, and safe. Her teaching philosophy focuses on four key pillars of physical health: strength, flexibility, balance, and exercise modifications. These principles guide every class she teaches and allow participants to build confidence while working at a level that is right for them.

Grace’s classes are known for being inclusive, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed for a wide range of ages and fitness levels. Using equipment such as weights, resistance bands, stability balls, and Pilates rings, she creates well-rounded workouts that challenge participants while offering modifications for every movement. Her supportive teaching style ensures that everyone feels successful, whether they are new to fitness or have been exercising for years.

It is no surprise that Grace has built such a loyal following. Many members have been attending her classes since she first began teaching, a true reflection of the trust, encouragement, and community she has created over the years. Grace is incredibly proud of her participants’ progress and deeply grateful for their continued dedication.

Be sure to join Grace for Body Sculpt every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8:00 a.m. Her classes are the perfect opportunity to build strength, improve mobility, and start the day feeling energized and accomplished.
