As we wrap up a month of creative expression at Gems in the Shadow, we’re reflecting on the many ways creativity allows us to connect with ourselves and be truly seen.

Creative expression isn’t about being perfect or producing something beautiful. It’s about giving a voice to what lives within us. Through art, movement, music, writing, play, or simply trying something new, we make space for parts of ourselves that may have been hidden, quieted, or forgotten.

We’re especially grateful to Caitlin of Breathe Gaia for joining our August circle and sharing her presence, creativity, and gifts with our community. It was beautiful to learn from her and experience the thoughtful space she created for expression and connection.

Thank you to everyone who shared, created, and explored alongside us this month. May we continue making room for inspiration, authenticity, and the things that make us feel most alive.

This month at Gems in the Shadow, we’ve been exploring creative expression. For me, that includes how I allow myself to be truly seen.

This is me, soaking in the sunshine, making peace with my body. Honoring her. Finding my way back into love with myself.

Before becoming a mother, I had worked so hard to feel at home in myself. My self-esteem was hard earned, built through years of healing and learning to trust who I was. I wasn’t prepared to feel so lost after having my baby, or to struggle to recognize the woman I had fought so hard to become. I could love my daughter with everything in me and still miss myself.

There have been tears, postpartum depression and anxiety, and a disconnection from myself that I never expected. There has been anger over how that journey unfolded, over support I believed I would have that vanished when I needed it. I’m learning to release some of that anger while leaning into the family and beloved friends who have shown up.

Connecting with other mothers, hearing their stories, and growing in community has helped mend a piece of me that felt lost. As I heal, I’m remembering what this body has done.

I felt life growing inside my womb. All my hopes and dreams, with a little heart beating below my own. Now I hold that little girl and look into her beautiful eyes. I watch her become a confident, obstinate, smart, creative three year old hurricane.

My body created life. And through loving her and being loved by her, parts of me have found healing, too.

Making peace with my body feels like an act of creative expression. Letting myself be visible. Taking up space. Allowing joy, softness, and sunlight to touch the parts of me I’ve wanted to hide.

I love who I am. Every damn inch of the woman I’ve fought through hell to become.

Last week, Katrina and I spent a beautiful sunny day connecting with our local community at Gilly’s House Summerfest. We had mindfulness coloring sheets, intention setting, and so many meaningful conversations.

Katrina and I both come from recovery backgrounds, and we know how powerful supportive spaces and community connection can be. Gems in the Shadow is a compassionate, trauma-informed sacred space where we share integration techniques, spiritual practices, and opportunities to explore the deeper parts of ourselves together.

I’m so grateful we had the opportunity to share the mission of Gems, along with Katrina’s work through Matriarch Holistic Kare and her upcoming cacao ceremonies that move with the cycles of the year.

So appreciative of the sunshine, the conversations, and everyone who stopped by to connect with us and support our work.

Coming out of circle Friday, where we gathered for Gems in the Shadow đź’Ž, I witnessed something that will stay with me.

In real time, souls connected through the simple yet profound invitation of creative expression — creating deeper connections not only within themselves, but within community.

This work will meet you where you are. And it’s the ones who keep showing up who witness the ripple effects.

To observe those ripples happening in real time literally brings my soul to tears. ❤️

To watch comfort begin to bloom within someone… to see them soften, open themselves to vulnerability, move that energy, and share pieces of themselves they may have once kept hidden — that is the magic.

That is the work.

That is what it means to come home to ourselves and remember that we were never meant to do this alone.

Thank you to every person who continues to show up, to witness, to share, to create, and to help bring these spaces alive.

As we continue weaving our energies together in this space, we continue doing the soul work we came here to do. ✨

This is community.
This is connection.
This is the ripple. 💎❤️✨

Using singing bowls has been transformative within the sessions I hold. ✨

Bringing this practice—one that has supported and deepened my own process—into the spaces I create has become a beautiful piece of my creative expression that is naturally taking form.

There is something so powerful about allowing the tools that have touched us personally to become part of the spaces we offer others. 🌿🔔

I look forward to being with you this Friday at 6:30, Gems in the Shadow for our Donation based Gathering @ Blackinton Arts
sharing in community, creativity, and connection.

Come as you are.
Bring your curiosity.
Let yourself be expressed. ✨

Much ♥️

Have you been thinking about joining us in person for Gems in the Shadow?

Each month, we explore a different theme as we move through the cycles of the year. In August, we’ll explore Creative Expression and Soulful Inspiration, making space to reconnect with creativity, curiosity, and the parts of ourselves that want to be expressed.

Join us Friday, August 21 to explore this theme with our special guest, Caitlin Rougeau of Breathe Gaia. We meet at Blackinton Arts in Attleboro from 6:30 to 8 pm.

Gems in the Shadow is a donation-based community. Come explore what’s waiting to be discovered beneath the surface.

As we arrive at the closing of Bright Shadow Season, we gather within the sacred container of Gems in the Shadow to honor all that has been witnessed, reclaimed, and transformed.

This month, we are deeply honored to welcome a beloved local mama, earth-tender, and devoted space holder whose medicine has been shared through forest wanderings, women's circles, and the quiet remembrance of our connection to the natural world.

Caitlin Rougeau will guide us through a ceremonial evening of soulful creative expression—an invitation to listen beyond words, create from the heart, and allow the wisdom of your spirit to be witnessed.

Together, we will weave intention, creativity, and community as we close this chapter with gratitude, honoring the woman we have become and the path that continues to unfold before us.

We heal together.

Creative expression can take so many forms.

I made this little dino sculpture a couple of years ago, but sculpting has actually been a creative outlet for me for about 15 years. It started with pastry and cake design and eventually moved into characters, little trinkets, and whatever else my imagination decided needed to exist.

This guy just popped into my head one day and I had to bring him into reality. Ice cream, shades and all.

And honestly, I think that’s part of what creative expression gives us. Permission to let the things inside of us come out without needing to justify them or make them make sense to anyone else.

For me, shining light on the shadow is also about stepping into authenticity. Not hiding parts of ourselves because we’re afraid of what someone else might think. Not editing ourselves into something more acceptable.

It’s about connecting with the things that bring resonance. The things that make us feel alive. The weird little ideas, the curiosity, the play, the parts of ourselves we may have learned to tuck away.

Because maybe that’s what this journey is really about.

Coming home to all of ourselves.
