Apraxia Awareness Month is May.
It is a time to celebrate and raise awareness for childhood apraxia of speech (CAS).
Our speech-language pathology graduate students working with children with apraxia of speech support their clients and families by providing intensive speech -language pathology therapy services in the Carls Center, advocating for all children with communication challenges and raising awareness in our community.

Summer Specialty Clinics (SSC) will be returning for its 80th year in the Summer of 2026! CMU is proud to continue this legacy program, which provides intensive, evidence-based speech and language interventions to children aged 3 through 14. With the support of donors, CMU strives to ensure that any child who is eligible for SSC can attend.

In addition to providing these interventions, SSC allows us to provide a unique clinical training opportunity for our graduate and undergraduate students of speech-language pathology. Your donations will allow us to continue to provide scholarship opportunities for children who may not otherwise be able to attend SSC.

On World Laughter Day, we are reminded how powerful joy and humor can be in the workplace.

Just yesterday, we celebrated Maxine’s retirement after nearly six years of dedicated service at the Carls Center. We are truly grateful for her compassion, work ethic, and commitment to patient care. Her laughter and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Maxine, we wish you all the best as you begin this next chapter of your life.

Earlier this month, we deployed our Mobile Health Central to the 2026 Michigan HOSA State Leadership Conference took place at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, bringing together 3,344 dedicated students eager to learn, grow, and engage in hands-on experiences that will help shape their futures in healthcare. BSN students were judges for two home health aide competitions right on Mobile Health Central, giving our students great experience to interact with future healthcare professionals.

We were thrilled to be at the Paula Pirnstill Health & Safety Fair this weekend. Our Audiology students were able to be on Mobile Health Central providing hearing screenings to adults and children under the supervision of Dr. Nicole Ferguson 🦻

A unique Garage Sale Fundraiser will be this upcoming weekend, and all proceeds will go towards sponsoring a child with hearing loss to attend the Summer Speech-Language Specialty Clinics (SSC)
