Does the Human Body Need Sugar From External Sources?
Short answer: No — not from external sources.
Here’s why:
✅ Your Body Makes Its Own Glucose
Your body is incredibly smart. Through a process called gluconeogenesis, your liver can produce glucose (sugar) from:
Proteins (amino acids)
Fats (glycerol)
Other carbohydrates (like fiber and starches)
So even if you never ate a single gram of added sugar, your body would still produce the glucose it needs to fuel your brain and cells.
🧠 What Your Brain Actually Needs
Your brain DOES run primarily on glucose — but it can also run on ketones (produced from fat) when glucose is low. Many people thrive on low-sugar or ketogenic diets for this reason.
⚠️ The Problem With External Sugar
Most people consume FAR more sugar than needed, which leads to:
Chronic inflammation
Nervous system dysregulation 😬 (ties right back to your last post!)
Blood sugar spikes & crashes
Increased anxiety and mood swings
🌿 Better Natural Sources of Energy:
Food Benefit
Leafy greens Slow-release energy, magnesium
Sweet potatoes Complex carbs, B vitamins
Berries Natural sugars + antioxidants
Nuts & seeds Healthy fats, sustained energy
Avocado Omega-3s, nervous system support
Bottom line: Your body does NOT need sugar from a candy bar, soda, or processed foods. It needs whole, real foods that support your nervous system, your energy, and your Hero Journey! 💪🌀
