I’ve received three dance awards in my life:
1. One award was out of hundreds of people, for the highest achievement at The Art of Dance, with Cecile Phinney, when I was in high school, and I was the only one that got the award that year, and I received a trophy. I was very surprised.
2. I also received student of the year in a belly dance class of of around 30 people, when I became an adult, and was part of a belly dance group for years. I was given a handmade ribbon rose, that was so beautiful, by one of our fellow classmates.
3. The only scholarship I ever received so far, was to Costa Rica, for a dance teacher training award, by Jacqui Lalita• It was a dance teacher training retreat, and I was the only one who got that award as well, at that event, of out of around 20 people.
4. I also received one honorable mention for a yoga class in college at CMMC, where I was set out front of everyone by the professor to be the example for everybody.
The main issue I have…I don’t really enjoy the idea of dancing on video as much as some people, as much as I enjoy photography, I enjoy real life when it comes to dancing, because you have to stay in that small frame, unless somebody else is recording you.
I’m also very finicky with the space I’m in, while dancing or recording, I prefer to have free flowing movement, and not have to worry about that, and if I don’t have the proper space, I can go months, or even years without recording myself truly dancing. Maybe one day I’ll have someone record me, and work on that with them? I’ve done that a couple times, but maybe I could do it in a more dedicated fashion?
I’m much better at dancing in person and in real life, so if you’ve ever been able to see that, I would consider it a gift I suppose? I consider it a gift when I see most people dancing.
I’ve had people try to record me at public festivals and events, but I usually walk away because I don’t know what it’s gonna look like later, and I’ve had professional photographers take pictures of me at festivals, and they never even gave me a copy of it, let alone shared it online…
Maybe if I had somebody who is truly on my team, that wasn’t gonna produce something heinous, or be bullies, like some people were in the past, than I would be more open to randos taking videos of me, instead of walking away.
Dancing on video, is one of the biggest challenges I have ever faced for dancing.. I’ve noticed some people say things about my dancing before and I’m just making a public service announcement. So welcome to my TedTalk. I have plans to tackle these goals as well, but everything will come together at the right time, so long I live.
I danced for Cecile Phinney, from age 6 to 19, and I danced for someone else around ages 3-6, at that. • I also did cheerleading and gymnastics, plus some sports, and I continued dancing for other people, into adulthood, until I practiced independently, more currently. • I just had somebody try to insult me with my dancing. I’m sorry, but I’ve had way too many positive reactions to my dancing, for me to care about what you think. Not only did I take yoga in college. I also took a modern dance class at SMMC. I’ve also taken a somatic dance class, which was very interesting.
Though, I do wish I could take some better dance videos and professional dance photos again someday.
Dance supplies cost a lot of money, I’m very particular, I just lost one of the LED inserts to my dragon staff last year, and I have a child, and a father and in a nursing home, that I’ve been working on, plus I had to unexpectedly move last year. I’ll be able to get some more dance supplies at least by this fall, it’s looking like. So I’m very excited for this Autumn.
Here’s a rough draft of one of my dance and bodywork resumes though. I didn’t even include the yoga at CMCC there. I guess I was trying to be humble, or it’s just not included. This is kind of an older rough draft that I added Aveda too, because I submitted two resumes this year, and this was just an example of a target market résumé, versus a general résumé.
