At the same time, this past weekend in Brasstown Valley Medical Association of Georgia held a Legislative Seminar, during which physicians had the opportunity to network with state lawmakers and discuss important health policy topics!

Last but not least, this was also the weekend of GPLA Class XVII Graduation and the start of Class XVIII! Congratulations to MCMS members who are in this new cohort: Dr. Deliana Peykova., Dr. Casey Leong and Dr. Shane Darrah! ✨

Yesterday we wrapped up our first Resident Forum, where we discussed career and financial topics! We had a phenomenal panel and keynote speaker: William A. Taylor, Jr., CPA, CFP®, PFS, MACCT - a highly experienced CPA with decades of experience working with physicians. Mr. Taylor shared powerful tips on how to handle your finances, especially while you're still paying off debt. 🔥✨💵

Our physician panel: Dr. David Gloystein, Dr. Iveta Boyanchek, Dr. Gopi Vora, Dr. Shikha Shah. M.D., Dr. Susan McWhirter spoke about their career journeys, how they ended up with the practice setting that they did and gave fantastic tips to the audience about how to interview for and choose their next career step!

Thank you to all who attended and served on the panels! Special thanks to Dr. Gary Dawson, MD for moderating the event!

April Bulletin is out and it's all about Physician Leadership! Physicians are leading without knowing that leadership is a skill! The difference between blame, criticism, frustration and cohesion, following and ease -- is leadership mastery. And that's what the MCMS Physician Leadership Academy on April 17th was all about. Full day of discussing the fundamentals, frameworks and Q&A with a physician who is a Cleveland Clinic hospital President!

Yesterday marked the inaugural session of the Muscogee County Medical Society Physician Leadership Academy, led by Marzena Buzanowska, MD MHA FACHE. Our participants—ranging from physicians in training to experienced attendings and healthcare leaders—came together with a shared commitment: to intentionally develop their leadership skills as a critical step toward career success.

This is exactly what our profession needs more of. Physicians enter the workplace as leaders, yet most have never received formal leadership training. That gap matters—and we’re here to help close it.

We explored a wide range of topics, including physician leadership, personal development, team building, conflict resolution, and the fundamentals of healthcare administration and advocacy.

A highlight of the day was a Q&A with Dr. Margaret McKenzie, OB/GYN and President of Cleveland Clinic South Pointe Hospital. She shared her journey as a physician leader and emphasized her commitment to educating the next generation of physicians.

By offering this course, the Muscogee County Medical Society is demonstrating its commitment to supporting and advancing our physician community—and the broader healthcare landscape.
