For a mom living with type 1 diabetes, each of those moments can come with a dozen extra decisions: How much insulin is still active? What are my blood sugar levels? How many carbs? Will exercise send me low? Is my pump charged? Is my CGM working?

And all of that happens while balancing the everyday joys, responsibilities, and unpredictability of motherhood.

Mary Ann Chamberlain has lived with T1D for 37 years. In her latest story, she gives us a candid glimpse into what it’s like to manage diabetes while being a mom, wife, writer, and advocate—and still making space for the moments that matter most.
