We are excited to introduce you to Wandering with Wonder!

Wandering with Wonder is a wellness experience that invites you to slow down, notice nature’s rhythms, and connect with the place around you through your senses.

We’re proud to be part of a group of community partners supporting this initiative with The Conservation Foundation. Together, we’re helping make nature-based wellness experiences more accessible to our communities.

The project includes a series of self-paced prompts inspired by the practice of forest therapy that you can use anywhere in nature. You can also visit one of four participating locations where guided signage helps you explore the experience at your own pace. See audio file link in the first comment.

We hope you’ll take a little time to wander, notice, breathe, and connect with the natural world around you.

You can also find guided signage at the following locations:
Hampshire Forest Preserve (Hampshire)
Hawthorne Hill Nature Center (Elgin)
Delnor Woods Park (St. Charles)
Oakhurst Forest Preserve (Aurora)

Sometimes, support looks like a meal.

When you’re going through cancer treatment, there can be days when simply figuring out what to make for dinner feels like one more thing on an already full plate.

That’s why we want to share a wonderful local resource with our Waterford Place community: Fox Valley Food for Health.

Their Healthy Meals Program provides free, nutritious meals for individuals and families facing cancer or another serious health challenge. Meals are delivered to your home and are intended to support the whole household during a time when cooking and meal planning may feel especially difficult.

And it’s about more than food. Each household is connected with a Delivery Angel who brings the meals and offers a little extra encouragement and human connection along the way. ❤️

If you or someone in your family could use this kind of support, we encourage you to learn more and see if you qualify.

Celebrating Fred!

We’re proud to celebrate our Waterford Place participant, Fred, who was recently selected to participate in an Honor Flight, an opportunity to visit Washington, D.C., and reflect on the memorials dedicated to those who served our country.

Congratulations, Fred! We’re honored to celebrate this special recognition with you. ❤️

Today, we also extend our deepest gratitude to all veterans who have served and sacrificed for our country, with a special acknowledgment of the veterans in our community who are fighting cancer or living beyond a cancer diagnosis. Your courage, strength, and service inspire us.

Thank you for your service, Fred, and to all who have worn the uniform.

COMING SOON! 🌿

At Waterford Place, we know that time in nature can be a meaningful part of mindfulness and well-being. That’s why we’re excited to be part of a coalition with The Conservation Foundation and other community partners working to create more opportunities for people to connect with nature right where they live.

Through our own mindfulness programming, which incorporates Forest Therapy, we’ve seen the value of creating space to slow down, reconnect, and simply be present in nature. We’re proud to help bring awareness to this initiative so our community can discover these opportunities beyond Waterford Place and enjoy the benefits of nature in spaces throughout our community.

A new nature wellness experience designed to help you notice nature’s rhythms is coming to an open space near you.

Follow City of Elgin, Illinois Government Forest Preserve District of Kane County, Hawthorne Hill Nature Center, and Hickory Knolls Discovery Center, St. Charles Park District to learn when this experience is available and find out how you can take part.

We’re excited to help our community connect with nature, wherever that journey takes you.

Music has the power to bring people together, inspire hope, and honor those we love.

Waterford Place Cancer Resource Center is honored to be joining George Thorogood & The Destroyers at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles on August 23.

Following the loss of his wife, Marla, to ovarian cancer in 2019, George Thorogood established the Marla Thorogood Ovarian Cancer Fund to support research and the search for a cure.

We'll be on-site throughout the evening sharing information about the free supportive oncology programs and services available through Waterford Place. If you're attending the concert, be sure to stop by our information table and say hello.

We look forward to connecting with you and sharing how our community is helping people affected by cancer live well during and beyond treatment.
