When The Arc of the Capital Area was founded in 1949, parents of a child with an intellectual and/or developmental disability (I/DD) were often told their only option was to place their child in an institution. The Arc of the Capital Area was founded by parents of children with I/DD who knew that their children deserved the opportunity to remain in the community, attend public school, and access t

he resources and opportunities that were available to other children. Since then, our organization has worked toward a future in which people with I/DD have the same opportunities as others to pursue full and productive lives.The Arc of the Capital Area, a nonprofit organization, is committed to empowering Central Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families through compassionate case management and innovative programs. The Arc of the Capital Area was formed in 1949 by a group of concerned parents trying to advocate for their children with disabilities. We are one of 31 local chapters of The Arc in Texas. The Arc is a national organization that promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This , we’re looking back on the graduation of our incredible Ranch Camp Apprenticeship cohort! Through our Employment Services partnership with Down Home Ranch, these graduates embraced new opportunities, built valuable skills, discovered new strengths, and continued to grow in confidence and independence. 🌿🤠

Their graduation was more than a ceremony—it was a celebration of their hard work, growth, perseverance, and everything they accomplished along the way. 💚

We are beyond proud of this cohort and honored to have been part of their journey. Congratulations again to our amazing graduates! 🎓✨

From the art studio to the Texas Capitol. 🏛️🎨✨

Last month, our incredible Arc artist, Davey, had the honor of being spotlighted at the Texas Capitol with Representative John Bucy!

Moments like these are about so much more than recognition, they amplify the talents, voices, and perspectives of artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We’re so grateful for leaders like Rep. Bucy who champion inclusion and help create spaces where the IDD community can be seen, celebrated, and empowered.

Davey’s moment at the Capitol is a reminder of what’s possible when we make room for every voice and every talent. Let’s keep creating spaces where people with IDD are not only included, but celebrated for everything they bring to our communities. ❤️
