Cancer Nutrition HQ

Cancer Nutrition HQ Empowering cancer patients and survivors with evidence-based nutrition I enjoy wearing many hats as a clinician, educator, scientist, and science communicator.

I have over 14 years of experience in nutrition and cancer, including research, higher education, and clinical practice. Education, empowerment, and empathy are at the core of my work. Through my experience, I have seen the critical gap in nutrition support for cancer survivors both during and after cancer treatment. Finding quality nutrition information is increasingly difficult with the rise of

misinformation and disinformation. Rather than stand back and watch the problem worsen, I strive to combat misinformation, share the latest research in nutrition and cancer, and translate the science into everyday actions survivors can take to support their health and quality of life with nutrition. I am committed to building Cancer Nutrition HQ to be a hub of evidence-based resources and tools for patients, survivors, caregivers, and healthcare providers. When I am not blabbing about nutrition to anyone who’ll listen, I enjoy weightlifting, traveling, trying new restaurants, and spending time with my husband and two pups in Austin, TX.

Focus on the pillars before trying a supplement.

Sedentary lifestyle, a more “Western” style dietary pattern, and inadequate sleep are all lifestyle factors that are associated with chronic inflammation.

Nutrition matters, but individual foods don’t determine whether someone develops cancer or whether their cancer comes back.

Cottage cheese + canned fruit has been a go to snack of mine for over 20years! It’s easy and perfect for the summer when I want something cold.

And while you’re here, some nutrition facts:
🥛Low fat dairy is associated with a lower risk of several cancers, including colorectal. Higher intakes may increase risk of prostate cancer, but that’s not something I have to worry about.

🍍Fruit isn’t “too much sugar.” Stop fearing fruit.

🥫 canned fruits and veggies are nutritious opens. Just aim to use products lower in sodium and no added sugar.

Disclaimer: I cannot guarantee yummy results if you use different brands. I’ve tried. Not the same 😉
