I’m more and more convinced that as we raise our children, the single most important thing we can offer them after love and nourishing food, is deep connection to nature.
I believe it will sustain them as they grow older and meet the challenges of adulthood and the society we live in.
I believe it will mean they never lose sight of the true connectedness of all things, of all beings.
I believe it will make them happier, more content, less materialistic.
I believe it will give them a safe haven and a reset, whenever they seek it.
It will offer them peace when they are experiencing conflict. Solace when they are hurting. A challenge and a wake up call when they forget how powerful yet fallible they are.
I believe that the denial of our wild nature leads to anxiety and dis-ease. The epidemics of modern life.
The inner pain, the wanting more, the-rat-race, slave-to-my-pointless-iob hamsters…
I believe that they will be better people, take better care of our planet and their fellow humans. I believe it will make them more humane.
The wilderness seekers are not the war-mongers, the bullet firers, waste-into-river putters, plastic-into-sea dumpers, forest-tearer-downers… those are the guns& tech-answers-everything people- to whom money is God and everything has a price.
Our essential nature IS nature itself. So shouldn’t that be the baseline for every single day? In every school, nursery, and home…
I’m sure it’s a privilege, it’s certainly a choice.
