πŸ‡Criticism. πŸ‡Contempt. πŸ‡Defensiveness. πŸ‡Stonewalling.

Dr. John Gottman's research shows that these 4 behaviors have such a negative impact in relationships that he calls them the "4 Horsemen"...yeah, like of THE APOCALYPSE.

If you want to prevent your relationship from experiencing an apocalyptic collapse - you need to work on embodying these antidotes. These come directly from Gottman Couples Therapy, and are research backed strategies.

Scroll through, and get curious - what horseman would be helpful to your relationship for you to work on?

Neurodiverse relationships can be challenging, but we make it even more challenging when we do something to try to feel better individually at the cost of doing better relationally.

The Gottman's research found these 4 self protective behaviors to be particularly harmful to relationships. While they may bring us temporary psychological relief they cause deep relational ruptures.

It's easy for neurodiverse couples to get stuck in conflict when your brains are wired differently. But neither of your neurotype is the problem, it's the pattern of behavior you've developed around your differences. And these 4 behaviors will keep you stuck...

1) Criticism - Attacking your partner's core character, personality, neurotype instead of addressing a specific action.

2) Contempt - Treating your partner with disrespect, sarcasm, mockery, or acting in any way like you are in a position of superiority. The Gottman's research found this to be the highest predictor of divorce.

3) Defensiveness - Playing the victim, making excuses, or shifting blame when faced with a complaint

4) Stonewalling - Shutting down, withdrawing, giving the silent treatment and not engaging with your partner

Like and save this post to refer back to, and follow along if you want to learn the antidote to these behaviors and change the patterns in your neurodiverse relationship.

Let's hope this one works better than the last one that was tried. Would be amazing to be able to prevent folks from contracting this rapidly growing infectious disease.

There isn't currently a Lyme disease vaccine on the U.S. market. Researchers are hoping to change that.
