Nobody told me I was allowed to be upside down at this age.

So I checked. Turns out I am.

That's me in the photo, feet to the ceiling in a CrossFit gym, puffer jacket and all, because it was freezing and I was not going to wait for perfect conditions to play.

Here's what I've seen with hundreds of women after 40. Somewhere along the way we got handed a script. You slow down. You settle. You get careful with your body instead of curious about it. And we read that script so many times we thought it was biology.

It's not biology. It's propaganda.

Your body is listening to everything you ask of her. Ask her to be small and careful, and she learns small and careful. Ask her to play, to lift, to try the silly thing against the wall, and she goes, oh, we're doing this now? And she rises to meet you. Cell by cell, that is how vitality actually gets built. From a body that finally feels safe enough to say yes.

That headstand is me remembering I get a vote in how this season goes.

So tell me, what's one thing you've done lately that surprised you? Big or tiny, I want it in the comments. I'll go first, mine's pinned below.

I used to think food was a test I kept failing.

Calories, macros, good foods, bad foods, and a running tally in my head that never once made me healthier.

Then I stand in front of a market stall like this one, and something in me goes quiet. Look at those tomatoes. The carrots. The greens still wearing their leaves. Nothing here has an ingredient list, because everything here IS the ingredient.

Here's what I know now. Food was never meant to be a set of rules. It's a relationship. A conversation with your body. And she is always listening.

So I don't hear the old diet voice anymore. I ask better questions. What feels nourishing? What feels grounding? What feels alive?

Because healing didn't happen when I restricted more. It happened when I finally learned to listen.

Tell me in the comments, gorgeous, what's one food that makes your body whisper thank you? I'll go first: a tomato that actually tastes like a tomato. ๐Ÿ…

And if this kind of conversation feels like home, my weekly letters go deeper every single week. Link to join is in the comments below. ๐Ÿ’Œ

If you checked more than one of theseโ€ฆ your body isn't broken. It's in survival mode.

And here's what nobody handed you: you cannot out-willpower survival mode. You can only call it off.

Go through all four, because these "flaws" you've been blaming yourself for are actually one single message from a body doing its job under bad conditions.

The fix starts smaller than you think. Steady fuel first thing. Morning light. Meals without negotiation. Signals of safety, repeated until your body believes you.

Because a body that feels safe doesn't hold on. It responds. It releases. It comes back to life. ๐Ÿค

If you want the deeper version, I write one honest letter a week on exactly this. Why your body stopped responding, and how to bring her back. No fads, no noise.

Some days self-care looks like green juice and journaling. And some days it looks like a nap, getting my hair did, or just taking a freaking break.

For years I thought taking care of myself meant being serious. Disciplined. On it all the time. Like rest had to be earned and joy was something I'd get to later, once everything else was handled.

The older I get, the more I realize self-care is just anything that makes you feel more like you.

Sometimes that is lifting heavy. Sometimes it is saying no. Sometimes it is a quiet night alone. And sometimes, like today, it is sitting in a salon chair bleaching the roots because my inner goddess said let's freshen this up. ๐Ÿ™Œ

You get to decide what caring for yourself looks like, and it does not have to be deep or pretty or worthy of a post. It just has to support the woman you are becoming.

So if you have been feeling stretched thin and overdue for a moment that is only yours, this is your reminder. Pick the thing that lights you up, even if it is small or a little ridiculous. Your body feels your joy. It always has.

Okay, your turn. What is your most unserious form of self-care? The thing that does not look healthy on paper but absolutely is for you. Tell me in the comments, I want the real answer, not the green juice one. ๐Ÿ’›

I used to walk through a place like this doing math in my head. Calories, macros, which things I was allowed to have and which ones I'd pay for later.

That voice ran the show for years, and it never once made me feel nourished. It just made me feel watched.

Somewhere along the way that changed. Food stopped being a list of rules to follow and started being a conversation with my body. Less "what am I allowed to have" and more "what actually makes me feel grounded and alive."

And that shift didn't come from restricting harder. It came from finally getting quiet enough to listen, to notice what my body was asking for instead of overriding it.

A market like this is where that feels easiest. The colors, the textures, food that still looks like food. My nervous system settles just standing in it. Nothing to count, nothing to earn, just real things that help my body exhale.

If the start of this year has felt heavy or rushed, here's your reminder that nourishing yourself was never meant to be this complicated. Sometimes it really is as simple as picking one thing that makes your body whisper thank you.

So tell me something. What is one food that makes your body feel good lately, not because a plan told you to eat it, but because it just feels right? Drop it in the comments. I genuinely want to know. ๐ŸŒฟ

Here's something no one really tells you about eating well in midlife. It can get lonely.

You make the "right" thing, eat it standing at the counter, and what started as caring for yourself slowly becomes one more box to check.

But your body isn't only responding to what's on the plate. It's responding to how you feel while you eat it, whether you feel calm, connected, and safe. That's not just a nice idea, it's physiology. We nourish ourselves more deeply when we feel like we belong.

So we're cooking together. ๐Ÿฒ

Come join our Tribal Cook Along. We're making one simple, delicious meal, laughing, swapping recipes, and remembering that real food can actually be easy and kind of joyful. Cook along with us, or pour something warm and just hang out. No pressure. No perfection. ๐Ÿ’š

Can I share something real with you?

Most women think transformation is about how they look.

And yes, that can be part of it. But what Iโ€™ve seen, over and over again, is that the real shift is how you feel in your body.

Calmer. More steady. More at home in yourself.

Because when your hormones start to balance and your nervous system finally gets a break, everything changes. Your energy. Your cravings. The way you show up in your life.

This is why the diet cycle feels so exhausting. It keeps you focused on the outside, while your body is asking for something deeper.

There is another way to do this. One that actually works with your body instead of against it.

And Iโ€™m going to be sharing something really special soon around this. Stay tuned. Itโ€™s something Iโ€™ve been working on for a while and I canโ€™t wait to bring you into it.

In the meantime, if you want to start surrounding yourself with women who are choosing a different path, come join us inside the Healthy Thriving Woman Facebook group. ๐Ÿ’›
