✨ My IBS nutrition icks as a GI dietitian ✨
🚩 Staying on the low FODMAP diet forever.
The low FODMAP diet was never meant to be a lifelong diet. The goal is to identify your triggers through the reintroduction phase so you can enjoy the most varied diet possible while managing symptoms.
🚩 Unnecessary food restrictions.
The longer your “don’t eat” list gets, the harder it becomes to meet your nutrition needs, enjoy meals with others, and have a peaceful relationship with food. More restriction doesn’t always lead to fewer symptoms.
🚩 Thinking fiber will automatically trigger an IBS flare.
Not all fiber is the same. The right type of fiber, introduced at the right pace, can actually help improve IBS symptoms. Fiber isn’t something everyone with IBS needs to fear.
There is so much misinformation about IBS nutrition online, and unfortunately, many people end up more confused and more restricted than when they started.
You deserve an approach that’s personalized, evidence-based, and sustainable.
What’s an IBS nutrition “rule” you followed that you later realized wasn’t actually helping? 👇
