TOMA is deeply saddened to share the passing of Robert “Sam” Tessen, a respected leader, dedicated advocate and longtime friend of the Texas osteopathic medical community. Sam served as TOMA’s Executive Director from 2004 to 2014.

He devoted much of his career to strengthening healthcare throughout Texas, particularly where access to care was limited. He played an important role in helping establish Texas Rural Health Clinics, expanding access in underserved areas and enabling more Texans to receive care closer to home.

During his tenure with TOMA, Sam worked tirelessly on behalf of osteopathic physicians, their patients and the profession. His leadership was grounded in service, collaboration and an enduring commitment to improving the health of communities across our state.

Sam’s influence will continue through the physicians and organizations he supported, the communities he served and the many colleagues and friends whose lives he touched.

TOMA is profoundly grateful for Sam’s lasting contributions to our organization. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.
