I want to be very clear that I’m deeply grateful for hospitals and the lifesaving care they provide.

After spending eight days in the hospital with my husband, there was also one thing I couldn’t stop thinking about.

The food.

We ended up bringing in nearly everything he ate, and when I went looking for something nourishing for myself, I was met with rows of processed snacks, sodas, energy drinks, and hot chips.

It made me wonder, why, in a place dedicated to healing, is nutritious food still so difficult to find?

I share more about what our family learned during those eight days, and some of the simple ways we created more comfort and support, in Part 2 of my hospital series.

🧬 Not all genetic variants mean the same thing.

In this MAPS podcast, Dr. Emily Gutierrez explains why common genetic variants can provide meaningful clinical insights. Rather than viewing genetics as a diagnosis, they can help us better understand biological pathways that could benefit from personalized support.

It’s the same philosophy that guides both Neuro Nutrition Associates and Neuro Nutrients: individualized, science-based care. At NNA, that means looking at the whole person to create personalized treatment plans. At Neuro Nutrients, it means thoughtfully formulating supplements to support those individualized approaches.

• How DNA-driven insights may help personalize care for children with complex health needs

Sleep is one of the most slept-on ways to support your child’s health 😓

As kids head back to school, prioritizing quality sleep can make a real difference in their immune system, focus, and mood, helping them show up ready to learn each day.

A few simple habits each night can go a long way:

✨ Finish dinner 2+ hours before bed
šŸŒ™ Limit blue light in the evening
šŸ›ļø Keep the bedroom cool, dark, and quiet
šŸ’Š When appropriate, talk with your child’s healthcare provider about sleep supports like magnesium, L-theanine, or melatonin.

Healthy sleep is one of the foundations of long-term wellness, and small, consistent changes can make a meaningful difference.

If your child still struggles with sleep despite healthy routines, it may be worth looking deeper. Our team is here to help uncover root causes and create a personalized care plan for your child.

Social media can often feel like one long highlight reel, which is why I wanted to share what I’ve really been going through.

Coming into this summer, I was so excited. I had plans to celebrate my almost-50th birthday in Indonesia, practice yoga with friends in Bali, travel, and have a grand adventure.

Then, almost overnight, everything came to a screeching halt.

It left me asking…

How do we live meaningfully within the life we have today, even when it looks nothing like what we hoped for?

How do we find moments of peace while carrying grief, fear, disappointment, or loss?

I do not have a perfect answer. But in this blog series, I’m sharing my story and a few of the things that have helped sustain me.

šŸ’› If this resonates with you, comment LIFE and I’ll send you the link to Part 1 of my blog.

Who else agrees that healing takes a village? šŸ˜ļø

When it comes to caring for children, especially those with complex neurological or chronic health concerns, no single provider can address every part of the journey.

Functional medicine looks at the whole child, which often means collaborating with therapists, counselors, ENTs, dentists, rheumatologists, and other trusted specialists to provide effective, well-rounded care.

To our partners in health, thank you. We are honored to work alongside you and grateful for your support in helping our patients and families.

Looking for personalized pediatric care? Our team can help you take the next step and connect you with trusted healthcare partners when additional support is needed.

From mom to mom, these back-to-school tools have been lifesavers.

A new school year often brings more sniffles, sore throats, and germs making their way through the classroom. That’s why we recommend being proactive about supporting children’s immune health and helping prevent illness before it starts.

These are a few of our go-to tools to help kiddos stay well, feel their best, and spend more time learning instead of recovering at home.

šŸ’› Save this post to come back to throughout the school year.

If you’re raising a child with autism, we hope this brings you a little more clarity.

Your child’s genetics are unique, which may help explain why two children can share the same diagnosis and still need very different approaches to care.

It’s so easy to get caught up in forums and social posts telling you what your child needs to try next. The truth is, what works for someone else’s child may not work for yours.

That trial and error can be exhausting.

Genomics does not provide every answer, but it can offer helpful insight into why your child’s body is functioning the way it is and which forms of support may be better suited to their individual needs.

Every child deserves personalized care. No two children, and no two autism journeys, are exactly alike.

Is this something you or someone you love has been struggling with? Save this post to come back to when you need the reminder. šŸ’›

Does your anxiety feel like a full-body experience?

It may be worth looking a little deeper.

Some people spend years focusing only on serotonin or the emotional side of anxiety, without realizing the real issue could be hyperarousal in the nervous system.

NPSR1 has been associated with hyperarousal, a state in which the nervous system stays on high alert, making it harder to relax or feel calm.

Your genes aren’t your destiny. Instead, they can give you a better understanding of your unique biology and what your body may need to function better.

Functional genomics testing is one of our favorite tools for better understanding a patient’s biology. It can be a game changer when creating precise, personalized treatment plans.

We’ve seen life-changing shifts in patients who identified what was driving their anxiety and took action accordingly.

Curious how your genetics could be influencing your anxiety?
