As we close out AAPI Heritage Month, TAPA is proud to highlight two leaders serving on the TAPA Board.
Slide 2: Sonali Weerasinghe, MPH, MPAS, PA-C
PA Weerasinghe is a first-generation Sri Lankan American and the first Asian president of TAPA. She works in the Neuro ICU at UT Southwestern, serves as a Texas delegate in the AAPA House of Delegates and volunteers as a student preceptor for UT Southwestern’s PA Program.
When asked what she loves most about being a PA, PA Weerasinghe shared:
“When my brother became sick in middle school, I saw how difficult it was for my parents to understand his illness and treatment plan. That experience inspired me to make patient and family education a priority, especially in a compassionate, culturally sensitive way. That's one of the reasons I love being a PA—you have the opportunity to do that every day, both with patients and through advocacy at the state and national level. Advocacy can take many forms, but when you lead with compassion and sincerity, you can make a meaningful difference."
Slide 3: Jessica Tung, JD, MMS, PA-C
PA Tung currently serves as the 2025–2026 AAPA House of Delegates Chief Delegate, helping guide resolutions that support AAPA's organizational mission. She will also serve as TAPA Vice President for the 2026–2028 term.
She works at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, specializing in pediatric plastics and hand microsurgery. Her cultural heritage is Taiwanese, and outside of work, she enjoys sketching and watching anime.
This AAPI Heritage Month, we celebrate PA leaders whose service, leadership and advocacy continue to strengthen the profession.
