One of the easiest ways to question your milk supply? Looking at how much you pump.

But pumping output and milk supply are not the same thing.

A pump is a tool, and it may not remove milk as effectively as your baby does. Your output can also vary depending on the time of day, how recently you fed, your pump settings, stress, hydration, and a whole host of other factors.

So if you pump 2 ounces, that does NOT automatically mean you only make 2 ounces. And if you pump 6 ounces, that doesn’t necessarily tell you what your baby is getting at the breast.

When it comes to knowing whether your baby is getting enough, things like weight gain, diaper output, feeding behavior, and how effectively baby is transferring milk give us much more useful information.

If you’re worried about your supply, you don’t have to figure it out from the numbers in your pump bottle. An IBCLC can help you look at the whole picture.

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. 💗

For many families, pregnancy and infant loss is a grief that can be difficult to put into words. And for those who have experienced loss, the feelings can continue long after the world around them has moved on.

At Breastfeeding Success, we recognize that every feeding journey is deeply personal, and that sometimes that journey ends in ways no parent ever expected or wanted.

Whether you are grieving a miscarriage, stillbirth, the loss of an infant, or supporting someone who is, we see you. Your baby mattered. Your love mattered. And your grief deserves space.

This month, we’re holding space for the babies who were loved, the parents who carry that love, and the families forever changed by loss. 💗

If you know someone who has experienced pregnancy or infant loss, a simple “I’m thinking of you” can mean more than you realize.

Join us for Bosom Buddies Tuesday, October 6th from 1:30-3:00pm at our Ramble Clinic. This week’s guest speaker is Mollie Doyle a Certified Babywearing Specialist.

Mollie Doyle is a certified babywearing educator and the founder of Carried Close ATX. She fell in love with babywearing during the newborn days with her first baby, soaking in the snuggles while still getting things done. But when her second was born it became a lifeline to care for a newborn and toddler at the same time. Mollie became an educator because she believes babywearing is a tool every parent deserves to have, and because when she went looking for in-person support after her youngest was born, it simply didn’t exist. So she created it. Through 1:1 in-home consultations, group gatherings, and community classes, Mollie helps Austin area families go from overwhelmed by options to confident, comfortable, and carried close; judgment free, always, because every parent is doing their best.

Every drop of colostrum is valuable, and we’re here to help you collect it. 💛

Colostrum is the thick, nutrient-rich first milk your body produces for your baby. Because it comes in small amounts and can be too thick to collect effectively with a pump, hand expression is often the best place to start.

Our hospital-based lactation team can help you:
• Learn how to hand express comfortably
• Collect those tiny drops safely
• Use syringes and collection containers
• Label and store your colostrum correctly
• Make a feeding plan based on your baby’s needs

We also have colostrum collection kits with supplies to make the process easier—because even a few drops can be meaningful for your newborn.

Whether your baby is latching, receiving extra milk, or spending time in the NICU, you don’t have to figure it out alone. Ask to see one of our IBCLCs while you’re in the hospital.
