From the time I was sixteen years old I could literally feel my blood rushing through my veins.
All day, every day, 24/7. A constant buzzing, a vibration, an internal zoom that never stopped no matter how still I was.
I was not falling apart in public. I was not having panic attacks.
From the outside I was functioning, showing up, keeping everything together. But underneath that I was running at a frequency that never quieted, not even once.
Even when chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia eventually stopped my body completely, that internal rushing was still there.
My body had stopped. My nervous system had absolutely not gotten the memo.
I had been living with high functioning anxiety since I was a teenager and nobody, including me, ever called it that.
I just thought that was who I was. I thought I was just wired this way and that managing it better was the best I could hope for.
What I did not understand then is that my nervous system was not broken and it was not my enemy.
It was trying to protect me. It simply did not know the emergency was over.
When I finally stopped fighting my body and started working with it instead, everything shifted. The rushing quieted.
The internal zoom slowed down. I started sleeping differently, breathing differently, feeling like myself for the first time in decades.
If any of this sounds familiar to you, if you have felt that constant internal hum underneath a completely functioning exterior, comment STRESS and follow me so I can send you something that helped me.
