Day 3 of

Hi, my name is Tasha and I love being a CHW because of my passion for community and wellness. I was a CHW long before I earned the certification, but having the experience over 15 years i'm so grateful for all the roles, experiences and opportunities i've been led to. The impact to build programs, manage impact initiavites in communities small and large. I've built a business, built a community thechwcrew all while still making impact and enjoying the ride. It's been a roller coaster but very well one that I have overall enjoyed and am blessed to train and educate others to join this ride.

What is your story and why do you love being a CHW?

This week we celebrate National CHW Week! Learn more about the role of CHWs and share your stories all week with the toolkit provided by NACHW: https://nachw.org/nchwaw/

Today the focus is on representing your CHW Awareness Day in your state. Since we are based in Texas, our awareness Day is typically in the month of April where there is usually an event hosted for CHWs/Promotoras to travel to our state capital in Austin and advocate and meet with legislators to provide inforamtion about the role and impact of CHWs.

Every April, APHA brings communities nationwide together to celebrate National Public Health Week — a time to honor the contributions of public health and shine a light on the issues shaping the health of our nation.

As the organizer for more than 30 years, APHA creates each year’s theme and develops toolkits, resources, events and educational materials to help the public, policymakers and health professionals take action. These resources extend beyond the week itself, supporting public health engagement year-round.
