When was the first time you knew your life was your own?

Someone asked me that once and my first answer was "I ALWAYS knew my life was my own.", because a part of me absolutely did. That very independent, very determined "I do it myself" little one who knew what she wanted and had no problem stomping her foot for it.

Oh, believe me - she's still in there, but the more I thought about the question, the more I realized I stopped trusting that confident, knowing little spit-fire part of me when I was really young.

When I was 27 and remodeling my first house, I was running floor samples by my mom and she said, "Oh, you don't want a dark floor."

I can still remember how it felt in my body. Not because she offered her opinion, but because it actually registered that someone else was telling what I didn't want!

It smacked me awake a little. I don't know, maybe that was my brain finally fully forming (as happens about that age), but it hit me that I didn't trust myself and my own opinion as much as I trusted hers.

And right there in that moment, I declared outloud for the first time in my life (or at least in a long time) that I absolutely DID want a dark floor!

It might sound silly in light of the big, deep healing breakthroughs I've experienced in my life, but that was a huge turning point. I took back a piece of myself I hadn't even realized I was smooshing.

That's what happens when we stop trusting ourselves - we default to what others want for us. And despite their best intentions, no one knows better what's true for us than we do.

That's one of the reasons I'm so passionate about this work, because it brings us back to our true Self, where all the knowing, all the gifts, all the authenticity lives - and allows us to live it on the outside.

And I got that dark floor, btw - and the dark green wallpaper - and gorgeous apple red sink! It was dreamy. Even mom loved it! 😊

So, when WAS the first time you knew your life was your own? And when did you stop trusting that?

I gotta be honest - unsubscribes still break my heart a little. 😪

I have a tiny little email community and even those I've never met feel like friends, so when one of them goes away, I feel it. But I feel everything, so there's that. 🤷‍♀️

In marketing, it's called "self selecting" and apparently, it's a good thing, but the people pleaser in me wants to make everybody happy.

Yeah, she's still in there - wanting to do eveything right so people don't leave her. But it happens. And it's not about me. My grown-ass-woman Self knows that, but that little one still needs reassurance sometimes.

I'm not saying this so you never leave me, lol. I'm saying it because it's a real thing we ALL experience and it's a huge part of this work.
If you're trying to shush the part of you that still feels hurt or anxious or sad sometimes, I want you to stop.

Emotional health is not NOT feeling pain - it's knowing what to DO with that pain when it rises. There's a difference in reacting to it and responding to it.

This work helps you respond to that part of you that needs regulation or reminding or reassurance, so it doesn't run-a-muck in your head, taking you down every rabbit hole up there.

When we're emotionally healthy, we're safe to feel our emotions without losing our sense of Self. We stay in our body. We turn toward the hurt part, rather than away - and 'away' can look like self-medicating, obsessing, anger, anxiety. You name it, I've probably done it.

If that sounds like you, too - this work is for you. What makes the Soul Integration Method™ different is, its not about rehashing or reliving pain and trauma - it's about finding the part of you that's still holding it and helping her lay it down.

This isn't "coping 101". This is healing at the root. When she's secure, you're secure. When she's free, you're free!

So if you're ready to dip your toe in the water, the Breakthrough Blueprint™ is where we start. It'll show you the part of you still carrying the pain and exactly what she needs to finally lay it down so you're both free to be YOU!

I just completed my signature program The 60-Day Return to Self™ with an amazing client I'll call Anna.

Smart, kind woman, who came with a bit of a chip on her shoulder like someone carrying defense wounds. Definitely kept parts of herself protected, like she wanted to jump all in, but didn't want to get her hair wet.

She would tell me all the things she already knew about herself, her process, her relationships, like she needed me to know she had it covered. And she DID actually - she understood more about herself than most. But she was still completely stuck.

I could see the loop: she was in her head about her heart. She knew what caused her pain, but she hadn't gotten to the under-belly of the pain itself - the part that actually needed to heal.

That's the work we just completed.
It was a beautiful thing!

I'd say she's like a different person now, but she's not - she's finally herself.

She's present and open and at ease in her skin. Still stronge, but softer with herself. Clear boundaries, not hard edges. And there's a palpable lightness in her that wasn't there before. Peaceful. Grounded. Real.

That's what shifting and healing from the inside out will do for you. That's your Return to Self™

Omg, I love this work. 😭

My 94 year old Dad went into hospice care at home last week. Bless him.

They say the end of life is a reconciliation, a making peace with the parts of ourselves and our lives that were left unsettled, or parts we've carried shame about. Watching him move in and out of himself, conscious and lucid one minute - agitated or living in a memory the next - it really hit me that who we ARE never changes.

We move in and out of different aspects of ourselves depending on what we're experiencing, but our TRUE Self is there when we get here and it's there when we leave, regardless of what happens in between.

Not the trauma. Not the relationships. Not the years of believing things about ourselves that were never true. None of it touches the real thing - but sometimes it does get buried.

I don't know about you, but I don't want to be at the end of my life wrestling with any of the bs I could have let go already. I don't want to carry it even one day longer than I have to, so if it pops its head up, I don't bop it back down. I love on it. I let it show me what it needs. I do what I have to do to heal it, and that's what I help you do, too.

A new client was referred to me the other day and she said, "I've stepped to the well three times in my life and I've always turned away because I don't want to open up those wounds again." She's made a good life for herself, but those wounds are already open and always right beneath the surface. She even called it Whack-a-Mole! (one of my favorite terms)
She's starting her Return To Self™ this week! 👏

This work is never about retraumatizing or reliving pain. It's about releasing it, and you can't do that without allowing it to be seen. That's what I help you do, so you don't have to keep coping and staying one step ahead of it. You already know it's there. What would it feel like if it wasn't?

That's the whole of this work. Not fixing you. Not rebuilding you. Just helping you find your way back to what was always true, what has always been there, what nothing in this life could ever take away.

I'm here for it, Love. I've got you!

When I was 8 years old, I entered a citywide art contest. I had 2 weeks to create an Easter drawing and all the contestants and winners would be displayed at the local shopping center, up and down the sidewalk in front of all the stores. I remember walking the entire length of that mall, back and forth - twice - looking for my drawing. It wasn't there.

My mom and I went to the judges' table and asked where it was. The woman looked at her clipboard and said, "Oh, it was disqualified for not following the guidelines. The rule was it had to be done without any help from their parents."

I don't remember what came out of my mouth, but I remember the panic that unfurled in my head. "WHAT? What is she talking about Momma? You DIDN'T help me. Nobody helped me! TELL HER! Why is she saying I cheated? That's not fair. Tell her I didn't cheat!!"

My mother turned me away from the table, saying something to the effect of, "They already gave out the prizes - let's just go." and we walked out through the crowd. I felt like everybody was looking at me, thinking I was a liar and a cheat. I remember feeling like I did something wrong, like I was bad for even being the kind of person they would THINK would cheat. It was traumatic, and that's what we do with trauma - we internalize it and it becomes our own shame. What happened next would cork that shame for years to come.

On our way home Momma said, "Well, at least you know it was THAT good - they think I helped you with it!"

My brain said, "Ah, yes - that's true! It WAS that good. Ok, that feels better." and that became what I took away from it. Consciously.

But - I never drew anything again.
Because the deeper take-away wasn't about the picture - it was about ME. That little 8-year-old girl believed them...I wasn't capable of creating something that good.

I stopped trusting myself - my instincts, my creativity, my gifts. I was afraid to put myself out there in ANY way, because they'd find out I was a fraud. WHICH WAS NEVER TRUE!!

One event. Someone else's careless, baseless judgement. A mother who didn't want to make a scene. It all could have gone very differently, but today I believe it needed to go exactly the way it did because it's one of THE reasons I do this work.

Because I know how deep those false beliefs run, and because my own journey of uncorking that unearned shame allowed me to tap back into who I AM.
That's exactly what the Return to Self™ is. 8 weeks, you and me, getting all the way back to YOU.

Step by step, we don't just see where the belief is trapped (which is helpful, but doesn't heal it) we literally undo it. You'll get back to who you were before that belief took root. The REAL you. Yep, she's still in there!

All of this in 8 weeks. Can you imagine your life just 60 days from now, without that baggage? What would that be like?

08/06/2026

A woman reached out to me this week, saying she'd read my post about betrayal and codependency, but she hadn't been betrayed, so she didn't understand why she felt all those same things.

I get it. In the old days, we thought codependency was only linked to addiction and alchoholism, but I'm here to tell you - it's not. (ugh, the '80s are "the old days" now😒)

Codependency is just a set of beliefs and behaviors we learned to do to feel safe, connected and loved when there wasn't a secure attachment forged early on. We learned to people please, caretake, rescue, enable - we learned to be perfect and be what others needed. We tried to control outcomes so we'd feel safe. We abandoned ourselves so we wouldn't be abandoned by others.

And honestly, it kinda worked. Until it started working AGAINST us.

There are a LOT of reasons others are emotionally unavailable to us when we're young - some they can't help. It's the belief we form about what that means about us that roots codependency. Addiction and alcoholism don't CAUSE codependency and neither does betrayal, but they definitely exacerbate it. Especially betrayal - it'll trigger the hell out of every belief you have about yourself before you know what hit you.🥊

In fact, it was THE catalyst for finally getting all the way to the root of it for me, so for that I'm grateful. (and grateful I can say that now without throwing up in my mouth a little bit)

I always say: we're not codependent because of relationships with toxic people. We END UP in toxic relationships because we're codependent. So many people don't understand how they got there because they can't trace it back to anything that makes sense.

That's why I love doing Breakthrough Blueprints™. I will make it make sense for you. I will trace it back to the root and give you a personal map of where it started, what's keeping it stuck, and the steps you need to take to unravel and release it for good.

You're worth the investment in yourself, Love. It's far less than what it's costing you not to know.

One of my greatest, brightest joys is when my 5yr old grandgirl sees me and runs screaming "Kaaaaaaakkkkiiii" and jumps in my arms. She squeezes me tight around my neck and says, "I love you, Kaki - I was missin you!"

Melts. My. Heart. God, I love that kid.

She came into my life at the very same time my husband was leaving it and I was so grateful to be able to just be present with her, in my role as Kaki, and not my role as hyper-vigilent-always-waiting-for-the-next-jolt-to-light-my-hair-on-fire wife. That was a well-timed blessing. I had no idea how much she would help me heal in the next few years to come.

This precious girl has helped me love the precious, sometimes wounded, sometimes anxious, sometimes messy parts of myself in a way I never knew how to do before.

When I feel that part of me struggling, it's been such a gift to stop and ask myself, "What if this were P? What would I say? What would I do? How would I be with her?"

And then that's what I do with my child self.

It's pretty flippin' amazing.

If you've ever wondered what it really means to "love yourself", I get it. We hear it often, but nobody really walks you through how to do it. But that's exactly what coming home to yourself feels like - and that's what we do in this work together.
