I had meant to write something about grief and loss on 9/11 because the pain of that day is still so very fresh for me and always will be. Little did I know what the weeks following the 9/11 anniversary would hold...
I just keep thinking that we (collectively, as a community) can’t take much more of this... raging fires, so many hurricanes we’ve moved to the Greek alphabet, more people dying due to Covid-19, continued protesting.... I’m watching some of my most beloved Austin small businesses who have rallied and pivoted are closing their doors for the final time.
And then one of my greatest fears came true two days ago. Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away. Oddly, this, THIS death of a woman I didn’t know personally, knocked the wind out of me and I just haven’t been able to pull myself together completely since.
I am mourning. I am mourning in the midst of weary mourning that has already gone on too long. I am grieving for a country I love and thought I knew, but really didn’t know at all. I am searching for that happy naïveté I once had that we collectively, were working together to move through our painful past to a more diverse, inclusive, loving future. And instead I find myself fighting for rights that should just be a given... while people are dying, women are being sterilized, and children are in cages....
Sigh. So I create. I create because it’s like a meditation for me. While my hands are busy, my mind can finally rest.
Here are Rose and Lavender Tea Lights.
Rose for RGB because there is nothing more regal and feminine and powerful than the Rose.
Lavender for rest. May we all just take a moment to rest before we pick up our heavy burdens again to fight the good fight. Because I do still believe Love. Always. Wins
