✨ WHY THE DAO MUSCLE MATTERS ✨
💉 One of the most important muscles we evaluate during a Full Face Botox treatment is the Depressor Anguli Oris (DAO).
📍 As we age, the balance between the muscles that lift the face and the muscles that pull the face downward begins to change.
⬆️ Above the mid-face line, we primarily have elevator muscles.
⬇️ Below it, we have depressor muscles.
Over time, these depressor muscles often become stronger and start pulling the tissues downward.
🔗 Remember: muscles connect to fascia, and fascia connects to the skin. Everything is connected.
This is one of the reasons we begin to see:
🔸 Drooping cheeks
🔸 Downturned corners of the mouth
🔸 Loss of facial support
🔸 A heavier appearance in the lower face
✨ When the DAO muscle is properly relaxed, the elevator muscles can function more freely, helping support and lift the face naturally.
⚠️ However, precision is critical.
The lower face contains several important muscles that must be carefully avoided, including the depressor labii inferioris and portions of the orbicularis oris. Injecting the wrong muscle can affect facial movement and symmetry.
🎯 This is why anatomy, technique, and proper dosing matter.
When Botox is placed accurately into the DAO, we can safely achieve longer-lasting results while maintaining natural facial expressions and facial balance.
🧬 Every face is different, and treatment should always be customized based on your anatomy, muscle strength, and aesthetic goals.
