Today is World IVF Day. 🔬 And if we’re being honest, this day can feel complicated… because IVF is agonizingly hard.

It is the quiet heartbreak of bad news delivered in a 30 second phone call. It is the bruises on your skin, the body that feels less like your own, and crying in your car after another pregnancy announcement.

It’s mourning the simple, easy path you deserved to have that everyone else seems to have, while carrying a weight that feels far too heavy to bear.

And yet, amid all the heartbreak, science offers a quiet Sanctuary of hope.

On a day meant to mark how far reproductive medicine has come, our hearts turn toward the unseen heroes of this journey, the embryologists.

Thank you to the scientists who step into the lab every morning carrying the fragile, sacred dreams of strangers.

Thank you for watching over embryos in the dark and being the best embryo babysitters we could ask for.

Thank you for treating every single cell with reverence, precision, and gentleness.

Thank you for being the quiet guardians of hope when our own has completely run out.

Today while we honor the aching hearts, we honor the science and the people behind that science that tries to heal them. And we hold space for both.

Thank you science and thank you to all the people working to make our dreams a reality.

They told me to savor it because it goes by in a “golden blink,” but they didn’t tell me that the blink is made up of a thousand tiny, quiet departures.
There is no notification when the toddler voice officially fades into a big kid voice. When they stop say manman instead of snowman, when they no longer want to cuddle you in the morning with their baba. No alarm goes off the last time they reach up for you to carry them on your hip. You just wake up one day and realize your hip feels a little lighter, and your heart feels a little heavier.

We spend so much time preparing for the firsts, the first steps, the first words, but no one prepares you for the lasts, that slip away in the middle of a Tuesday afternoon.

With Bella’s passing, I realize even more how time is a thief and I am officially in my emo mama era holding on tight to all of the little moments that I know go by in the blink of an eye.

Audio:

To the mama in the thick of it: hold them an extra minute today. The transitions are undocumented, and the “golden blink” is already halfway through.

My girl, if I could have kept you forever I would have.

Happy 1/2 Birthday Mills 🧸

No updates in a couple months because life is unbelievably busy and crazy, and I now can’t remember the month by month updates anymore and I am soooo late to finally posting this one. But a couple updates now:

🧸Millsie Bears last check in at 5.5 months he was 13.2 pounds so failure to thrive is a worry but we also had this with Eloise too so I’m just trying to keep myself calm about his weight
🧸Not being on the charts is always scary but my doctor here in Connecticut is old school and not worried at all
🧸He still has no teeth at 7 months lol
🧸The sweetest smile and little boy ever
🧸Close to crawling (7.5 months)
🧸Starting solids - baby led weaning worked well for Elle and Cal
🧸Sadly we moved him into his own room at 6 months. The sleep situation got so bad I literally did not know what else to do. He wouldn’t even cosleep longer than 15 minutes at a time. Turns out he loves his crib
🧸A couple times I tried to bring him back in with me but he didn’t sleep so I had to cave and let him sleep on his own. It still is so hard for me to
🧸Weaned him of his binkies after having two kids who are impossible to wean from theirs, but now he is sucking his thumb 🤦🏼‍♀️
🧸Callum + Eloise are the best big brother and sister, it’s busy but there is nothing better than having the three of them together

Struggling with infertility was the hardest thing I have ever endured. The world loves to tell you exactly how you should be building your family or perhaps, why you shouldn’t be building it at all and hearing all the noise as you go through infertility for years and years is absolutely devastating and exhausting on top of already being devastated and exhausted from the hardships of infertility.

You’ll hear the gentle push: “Why not just adopt?” (as if that’s a simple, emotionally neutral Plan B). Or the downright cruel judgment: “You should stop playing God.”

This is a hard truth, but it’s critical: It is very important that you don’t believe them.

Your journey is yours alone. Your path to motherhood, no matter how complex, expensive, or heartbreaking, is a valid fight.

You are not playing God; you are fighting for your child. You are using medical science available to you to answer a biological need that is deeply rooted in your soul.

Your desire for a child is okay. No one questions a woman who gets pregnant naturally. We are simply seeking a solution to a challenge, not a miracle. Adoption is a beautiful act of love, but it is a separate journey. It doesn’t erase the longing for this specific want or desire.

To every woman who has heard these words: Your fight is worthy. Your heart is valid. Your path is your decision. Keep advocating for yourself 🩵🩷
