Want to protect your tan and have less risk of burn this 4th of July?
A red light session before a long day in the sun may help.
Near-infrared light pre-conditions the skin against UV damage — researchers call it photoprevention. Your skin gets a head start before the sun hits it.
NIR wavelengths activate protective pathways in skin cells that reduce the inflammatory response to UV exposure. Less inflammation. Less burning. More time in the sun before your skin starts to protest.
And water? Water is a chromophore too. At 970nm and beyond.
The catch — and this is very dr!p — it only works at the right dose. Too little does nothing. Too much causes the opposite effect. Which is exactly what hormesis predicts.
This is the science behind why we built what we built.
