Did You Know? The Color of Your Tea Can Tell a Story

One of the most beautiful things about herbal tea is watching the water transform as the plants begin to infuse.

That gorgeous color isn’t just for looks, it comes naturally from pigments found in the plants themselves.

Hibiscus creates brilliant ruby red tones.
Butterfly pea flower produces striking shades of blue and purple.
Chamomile gives a soft golden hue.
Rosehips can add warm reddish, orange tones.
Green herbs often create earthy shades of gold and green.

And here’s the fun part, some plant pigments even respond to changes in acidity. Add a squeeze of lemon to butterfly pea flower tea, for example, and watch the blue shift toward purple or pink!

No artificial colors needed, plants have their own beautiful palette.

Nature really does make the prettiest cup of tea.

Did You Know? Herbal Tea Isn’t Technically “Tea”?

True tea comes from one plant, Camellia sinensis. Black tea, green tea, white tea, and oolong all come from this same plant. The differences come largely from how the leaves are grown and processed.

When we steep herbs, flowers, berries, roots, or spices that don’t contain tea leaves, the drink is technically called a tisane or herbal infusion.

So that beautiful cup of chamomile? A tisane.

Peppermint? A tisane.

A blend containing Earl Grey or black tea along with herbs? Now you’ve got a true tea and herbal infusion all in one cup!

Most of us simply call them all “tea” and that’s perfectly fine. But now you know a little tea trivia to share over your next cup.

Did You Know? Not All Tea Needs the Same Steeping Time!

Delicate flowers and leaves usually release their flavor fairly quickly, while hearty ingredients like roots, bark, berries, and seeds often need more time or even a gentle simmer to fully extract.

That’s why the way you prepare an herbal blend matters!

Flowers & delicate leaves: usually a shorter steep
Hearty leaves & herbs: a little longer
Roots, bark & berries: often benefit from a longer steep or gentle simmer

A beautiful cup of tea isn't just about what's in the blend, it's also about how you brew it.
