Birth Education Class, Friday August 28th. 12pm to 5pm. The cost is FREE. Coffee and tea are provided. Please have lunch before arriving.

No matter if you’re a Homebirth client or not. Any expecting (or plan to be expecting) families are welcome to join! To be held at Midwife Mykl Homebirth Services Prenatal Office, at the one-and-only stoplight corner in Bagley.

Just be sure to text before you come, to be sure class isn’t postponed for a labor/birth.

“I bet you’re enjoying a nice break now that all those babies came!”

I mean…sure?

But actually, a cluster of births that cancels almost an entire week of appointments, means the following week has double the appointments. AND it has all the early in-home postpartum visits ADDED to the doubly scheduled week. So the week is tripled!

“The nice break” is logistically only a “break from births.”

11 straight days of births, with many overnights, and as many appointments squished in between them as possible. Then immediately into full office visit days, several hundred mile loops of home visits, and 7am to 10pm days to fit in all the proper care. This will continue daily until at least next Friday. Which means 21 straight days of office, homes, and a few thousand miles.

Today was a 340 mile day. A miscarriage support visit, to check on a mama’s well being, and 2 early postpartum home visits that where in opposite directions. Christina, Stephanie, and Carissa all participated in 1 or more visits each. It was a day full of emotions both sad and good. Supporting a young repeat couple through a tough spot in their lives. Supporting 2 other couples through their joy of their growing, thriving babies.

It was just another day in the life of a Midwife. But such a beautiful day. So blessed to do this work.

The last August baby decided she wanted to try and join the birth storm! A sweet baby girl born in the early morning! Another baby who did not come when expected, based on history.

Well played, August babies. Well played.

Congratulations to this sweet repeat family! We love them so much, and are so happy for this baby girl added to their family!

Birth Assistant Stephanie helped me with this one. 4th in a row with her, and 5th of the last 6 in a row! Stephanie has been busy too!

I’m now technically off call for tonight and tomorrow, until the next September mama start reaches 37 weeks gestation on Thursday night. It’s an odd feeling to not have any likely labors! Maybe I’ll sleep hard tonight.

After this morning’s beautiful birth, I got to see the twins again for another postpartum visit, then got to welcome a new client into care, do a few prenatals, and graduate 3 clients from care with their 6-week postpartum visits. It’s been a day of all the stages! My heart is full 😍

5 mamas, 6 homeborn babies, 8 super crazy [and yet amazing] days!

I’ve seen the majority of sunrises and sunsets of 8 days in a row while on the road, while supporting a mama in the birth pool, while helping to arrange pillows and assess a baby’s latch during breastfeeding support, while getting a 10 minute walk outside just to stretch my legs, while making myself another coffee in the laboring couples kitchen, while spooning bites of food into the mama and the dad’s mouths as they labored in the pool (because they both needed to keep up their energy), or while peeking my eyes open and gazing out the window from a 1 hour couch nap.

But. Wow. What an amazing week! If you could have seen how my amazing Birth Assistants worked seamlessly together, even when working with BA’s they don’t get to work with much. If you could have seen how God orchestrated every last detail. If you could have seen how these incredibly strong women worked through their labors—several of them long, multi day labors! Then you would have a glimpse of how amazing of a week it truly was! But alas, these are the details that these families get to share, not me. 🙂

I may have forgotten how comfortable my own mattress was by the time I slept at home again. But it was oh so worth it.

We had 3 new-to-me families, one repeat family, and one 3peat family. A first time mom, a 3rd timer, 4th timer, 6th timer, and 7th timer.

My August suddenly has only 1 due date left! The 5 mamas above had due dates that spread very evenly over a 5 week span, yet their babies all decided to work together on creating a birth storm of 8 straight days! 1 of them was due in September, but came a bit early. Another should have been in September, based on her history, but then came early as well. 2 deliveries were over a week past their dates. Only 1 of the 5 mamas delivered near her due date. Babies are unpredictable!

We also welcomed our brand new Birth Assistant, Carissa, to her first birth! Carissa completed her BA Training in July, and she was an amazing, helpful, and thorough BA at her first delivery. So excited to have her on the team! (She’s the new face in the first pic!)

TWIN Birth! 2 handsome Boys arrived yesterday! Such a beautiful twin birth! An amazing couple. And a fun birth team. 😍

This couple jumped through some hoops to choose the birth team that they wanted! With not very many options for twin providers in their area, they chose to seek my Homebirth Services and rent an Airbnb nearby me for a month over their likely due zone.

Even with a few twists and turns along the way, this mama was determined to have the birth she wanted. And she did!

I’m thankful for amazing Birth Assistants! I assembled a team of 4 of my most experienced assistants to attend with me. Each with their own assignments of what their responsibilities were for this birth, for the safety of mama and babies. They all worked so beautifully and seamlessly with the tasks at hand. Alivia has done several twin births with me already, and I love watching her skills excel!

VBA2C Birth! A beautiful healing birth after 2 c-sections!

This was a bit of an unusual birth for me because I agreed to be hired in a Doula role for a planned hospital birth. Alivia started out at the labor and spent all day with them. I was able to join in in the evening, and the baby was born in the middle of the night. It was a long labor journey for this family, but this mama had an amazing OB and nurses supporting her for this birth, and both Alivia and I supporting her as well—and she made it through! So proud of this mama, her gathering of the right team for her birth, and her strength in enduring the twists and turns, and still reaching the finish line!

It was great to do a Doula birth with Alivia too, as it’s been a while since we have teamed up for this! She was an incredible Doula for them!

Being part of VBAC journeys never gets old. Witnessing the healing of these births is nothing short of incredible. I’ve been known to shed happy tears right along with the family. 😭😍

Fun Birth conversations are happening today through Sunday at the Clearwater County Fair in Bagley!

Couches are set up to stop in to feed/nurse your baby! The diaper changing station is ready with every size of diaper to fit your child’s cleanup needs. No worries if you forgot the diapers at home!

I may only be half awake, because of attending a beautiful VBA2C birth in the middle of the night, but I’m still here and still having lots of fun!

And check out the delicious options at our church’s food stand too! The Calvary Evangelical Free Church food stand is serving up amazing Quesadilla Burgers, and lots of other yummy stuff too!

What do you do when you have a cluster of postpartum visits to do, and both Student Midwives are eager for the experience? Well, you invite them both, of course! 😍

We had a fun afternoon visiting mamas and their new babies! These families already knew both Christina and Stephanie, so it was the perfect day to have them both around. Christina and Stephanie even met up and carpooled together while following me to the houses. What fun!

The corn crop behind us is about 9 feet tall! We should have walked down the slope by the plants. It was so big, and a great spot to grab our photo!

A sweet repeat family had a super cute baby boy in the early hours this morning!

This birth had it’s challenges. But they were also swiftly mitigated. I’m thankful for Birth Assistants who practice and train with me often for every scenario! Birth Assistants who understand the importance of these skills practice sessions!

Quick thinking, swift hands, attention to detail, quick to action. My Birth Assistants work so seamlessly with me. Both with my quick guidance to instruct them, and also often with their intuition kicking in from so much practice.

We departed a few hours after the birth, as usual—with the beautiful scene of a family snuggling and nursing their baby in the bedroom. Perfect. Thriving.

Can’t wait to see them again tomorrow!
