You went in because something felt off. Maybe it was fatigue that sleep doesn't fix. Maybe your mood shifted in ways you can't explain. Maybe your body just stopped responding the way it used to.

They ran the panel. Everything came back "within range." And the conversation ended there.

But here's what most people aren't told: standard lab ranges are built from population averages. They tell you whether you fall between the 2.5th and 97.5th percentile. That's a massive window.

A thyroid level of 4.0 is technically normal. But for many people, it's the difference between functioning and dragging through every afternoon. A testosterone level at the bottom of the range still counts as "fine" on paper, even if your energy, recovery, and drive have collapsed.

"In range" means you're not flagged.

It doesn't mean your body is working well.

That gap between "normal" and "optimal" is where a lot of people get stuck. Symptomatic but dismissed. Frustrated but told nothing's wrong.

A deeper evaluation looks different. It reads your labs in context by looking at where you fall within the range, how markers relate to each other, and how they line up with what you're actually experiencing day to day.

Because the numbers are only useful if someone knows how to interpret them alongside the person they belong to.

✅ If your labs came back normal but your body is telling a different story, a functional evaluation may reveal what a standard panel missed. Schedule your consult and let's read the full picture.

Weight loss isn't just about diet and exercise – hormones play a crucial role too! While we often hear about insulin and thyroid hormones, there are several less talked-about hormones that can also impact your weight loss journey.

Cortisol, known as the stress hormone, can lead to weight gain, especially around the abdomen. Leptin and ghrelin, the hormones that regulate hunger and satiety, can make managing your appetite challenging if they're out of balance. Even s*x hormones like estrogen and testosterone can influence where and how your body stores fat.

Understanding these hormones and how they affect your body is key to effective weight loss. If you’re struggling with stubborn weight, it might be time to look at the bigger hormonal picture.

✨ Your labs are "normal"... so why do you still feel awful?

If you've ever been told, "Everything looks normal," but you're still exhausted, gaining weight, struggling with brain fog, low libido, anxiety, poor sleep, or just don't feel like yourself... you're not alone.

The truth is, "normal" doesn't always mean optimal.

There are so many reasons standard blood work can miss what's really going on:
✔️ "Normal" lab ranges are based on averages—not necessarily what helps you feel your best.
✔️ Many hormone panels are incomplete or aren't ordered at all.
✔️ Ferritin and vitamin D may technically be "normal" but still too low for optimal health.
✔️ A TSH alone doesn't give the full picture of thyroid function.
✔️ An A1C of 5.6 may still signal insulin resistance is developing.
✔️ Cortisol dysfunction often won't show up on routine blood work.
✔️ Women's hormones fluctuate constantly—one lab draw is just a snapshot.
✔️ Your symptoms matter just as much as your numbers.
✔️ Perimenopause can feel like a hormonal roller coaster long before labs clearly reflect it.

This is exactly why I spend so much time listening to your story—not just reading your lab report.

Your body is giving you clues. Sometimes the labs simply aren't telling the whole story.

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here.

I'm Carrie Haar, a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, entrepreneur, educator, and the founder of Rural Revival.

For years, I worked in emergency medicine and primary care, caring for patients during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. While I loved what I did, I found myself asking a question I couldn't ignore:

What if we focused on preventing disease instead of simply treating it?

That question changed the course of my career. I had known for a long time that I wanted to do more. I wanted to offer people more than a 15 minute clinic appointment and some prescriptions.

Today, I help women and men optimize their health through hormone therapy, metabolic health, weight management, nutrition, preventive medicine, and evidence-based wellness. My goal isn't just to help people live longer—it's to help them feel better, have more energy, regain confidence, and truly enjoy their lives.

I also have a deep passion for aesthetic medicine because I believe feeling confident on the outside often supports healing on the inside. Whether we're improving skin health, restoring hair, or helping someone feel like themselves again, it's all connected.

As the owner of Rural Revival, I wear many hats—provider, business owner, leader, mentor, and lifelong learner. I'm constantly investing in advanced education so I can bring the latest evidence-based treatments back to the rural communities I serve.

This page is where I'll share:
✨ Practical health education
✨ Hormone and metabolic health
✨ Weight loss and longevity
✨ Skin health and aesthetics

Most importantly, I want this to be a place where medicine is understandable, honest, and empowering.

I believe healthcare should never feel intimidating. My goal is to help you understand your body, ask better questions, and make informed decisions about your health.

Whether you're a patient, another healthcare professional, or simply someone who wants to learn, I'm grateful you're here.

Welcome to the journey.
