Pregnancy Loss Deserves Support, Too. 🤍

Miscarriage and pregnancy loss can affect a person in ways that others may never see.

There may be grief.
Shock.
Anger.
Numbness.
Relief.
Confusion.
Physical discomfort.
Or a mixture of emotions that changes from one moment to the next.

There is no “right” way to experience loss.

And while so much attention is often placed on the medical care surrounding a miscarriage, there is also a person who may need someone beside them — someone to listen, sit quietly, offer reassurance, help them understand what to expect, and simply hold space without trying to fix their grief.

Many families may not realize that Medi-Cal’s doula benefit includes support related to miscarriage and pregnancy loss.

A doula can provide non-medical physical, emotional, and informational support during this incredibly tender time — including support surrounding miscarriage management or a procedure such as a D&C, within the doula’s scope of practice.

Sometimes support looks like talking.

Sometimes it looks like sitting quietly.

Sometimes it means helping someone process what just happened.

And sometimes it simply means making sure they don’t have to walk through such a vulnerable moment without support.

Pregnancy loss is still a birth experience worthy of compassion, dignity, tenderness, and care. 🤍

If you or someone you love is experiencing a pregnancy loss and has Medi-Cal, know that doula support may be available to you.

You are allowed to ask for someone to hold space for you, too.

I’m bringing Sobada back. 🤎🌿

I stepped away from offering Sobada for a little while, but I’m ready to return to this beautiful practice. Moving forward, Sobada will be incorporated into my Closing of the Bones ceremonies.

I learned Sobada from Metzli Lopez of Luna Mama Services, and I carry so much gratitude for the knowledge and teachings she shared with me.

As part of this offering, I’ll also be incorporating a traditional copal massage oil brought directly from Guatemala, used intentionally during the Sobada portion of the ceremony.

Sobada + Closing of the Bones

A time to tend to the postpartum body.
A return inward after the opening of birth.
A moment to honor the womb and everything it has carried.
A space to be massaged, wrapped, held, and cared for.

As I return to offering Sobada, it is important to me to acknowledge where my teachings came from, who shared them with me, and the ancestral traditions that came before me.
