Summer wellness reminder: if you’re taking an SSRI, the heat may hit a little differently.

Many people don’t realize that certain antidepressants can affect sweating, hydration, and temperature regulation, which can make hot summer days feel more challenging. This isn’t a reason to stop your medication. It’s simply information that can help you plan ahead, stay hydrated, and recognize when your body needs a break.

Because wellness isn’t just about workouts and vegetables. Sometimes it’s knowing why you suddenly feel like a human rotisserie chicken after 15 minutes outside.

Take care of your mental health. Take care of your hydration. Both matter! 💧

Turns out my biggest mistake wasn’t a lack of motivation. It was trying to change everything all at once.

This week I’m focusing on just TWO habits instead of attempting a full life makeover by Monday. 😅

Small changes may not feel exciting, but they tend to stick around longer than an all-or-nothing plan.

What are you focusing on this week?

Summer hydration is about more than how much water you drink.

Hydration also comes from foods, electrolytes, and building simple habits into your day that help your body stay fueled and functioning well.

If you've been feeling tired, headache-y, sluggish, or like you're dragging yourself through the heat, hydration is one of the first places worth checking.

No hydration challenges, no gallon-a-day pressure, just practical ways to support your body through a hot, busy summer.

Balanced-ish is always the goal. 💧☀️

Summer has a funny way of making people feel like they’re falling behind.

Your routine changes.
Your schedule gets packed.
The gym feels harder to get to.
You miss a few workouts and suddenly it feels like you’ve “ruined everything.”

You haven’t. Movement in the summer often looks different than it does in January.

Maybe you’re taking more walks.
Maybe you’re gardening.
Maybe you’re swimming with your kids.
Maybe you’re dancing at a concert, exploring a new city, or carrying coolers across the beach.

It all counts.

Not every season is meant to be your most structured fitness season.
Sometimes the goal is progress.
Sometimes the goal is maintenance.
Sometimes the goal is simply staying connected to movement in a way that fits your life.

A Balanced-ish summer doesn’t require a perfect workout plan. It requires flexibility, realistic expectations, and remembering that movement was never supposed to feel like punishment in the first place.

The wellness industry has convinced us that if you’re not doing sunrise workouts, drinking celery juice before dawn, and journaling while the rest of the world is asleep… you’re somehow doing it wrong.

Good news: you’re allowed to be healthy without becoming a morning person.

Healthy habits that count:
☀️ Drinking a glass of water when you remember
🥪 Eating lunch instead of surviving on coffee and vibes
🚶 Taking a 10-minute walk between meetings
🥗 Adding a vegetable to a meal without turning it into a personality trait
📱 Putting your phone down 30 minutes before bed
💤 Going to bed earlier instead of waking up earlier
💪 Doing a 20-minute workout because that’s what fits your life
😌 Taking a few deep breaths before responding to that email
🚫 Saying no to something that would overload your schedule
🍎 Keeping snacks nearby so you don’t accidentally skip meals all day

Wellness isn’t a competition to see who can suffer the most before sunrise. The best habits are the ones you can actually do consistently. Because a healthy life should fit into your life… not require you to completely reorganize it around a 4 AM alarm clock.

Has your appetite felt a little different lately?

Maybe you're not as hungry during the day, or heavier meals sound less appealing. Maybe you're reaching for fruit, sandwiches, smoothies, or snack plates instead of your usual meals.

That's not necessarily a problem. Summer appetite changes are actually pretty common!

When temperatures rise, your body doesn't need to work as hard to stay warm, which can influence hunger cues. Add in changes to your schedule, travel, social events, increased activity, and staying hydrated, and it's not unusual for eating patterns to shift a bit.

The goal isn't to force yourself to eat exactly the same way you do in January. The goal is to continue nourishing your body.

That might look like:
-Lighter meals
- More fruits and vegetables
- Smoothies
- Snack-style lunches
- Smaller meals more often
- Paying closer attention to hydration

A Balanced-ish reminder: eating less because you're simply less hungry is different than unintentionally under-eating all day and wondering why you're exhausted, cranky, and standing in front of the pantry at 9 PM. Your appetite may change with the seasons, but your body still needs fuel. Pay attention to what it's asking for and do your best to meet it there.

Most people think health coaching is only for people who have no idea where to start.

In reality? Many of the women I work with already know a lot about health. They're just struggling to turn that knowledge into something sustainable.

Here are five signs a health coach might be exactly what you need:

1. You know what to do, but you're struggling to actually do it.
You don't need another meal plan. You need support, accountability, and strategies that work in real life.

2. You're tired of starting over every Monday.
If your wellness routine feels like a cycle of all-in, all-out, a health coach can help you build consistency without perfection.

3. You're overwhelmed by conflicting advice.
One person says eat carbs. Another says don't. Someone else is drinking chlorophyll out of a mason jar and swears it changed their life. A coach helps you filter the noise and focus on what actually matters.

4. You keep putting yourself last.
You take care of everyone else, but your own health keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the list.

5. You want support that looks at the whole picture.
Nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, hormones, mindset, boundaries, energy, burnout... Your health isn't just one thing, and your support shouldn't be either.

If you've been thinking "I know what I should be doing, I'm just having a hard time doing it consistently," health coaching might be exactly what you're looking for.

At Balanced-ish, we offer free consultations because finding support should feel comfortable, not intimidating. If you're curious about what coaching could look like for you, my inbox is open! 📫

When people think about brain health, they often think supplements.

Meanwhile, their brain is running on three hours of sleep, chronic stress, dehydration, and a granola bar they ate at 10 AM.

Nutrition isn’t the only piece of the puzzle, but it is one piece.

This summer, focus on adding foods that support your brain instead of stressing about eating perfectly.

Because your brain deserves more than caffeine and good intentions. 🧠☀️

If you're looking at your summer calendar and wondering when you're supposed to fit a workout into all of that, this is your reminder:

Movement doesn't have to be a formal workout to count.

A walk after dinner counts.
Gardening counts.
Swimming counts.
Playing with your kids counts.
Carrying bags of mulch counts.
A bike ride counts.
Walking around the zoo, amusement park, or farmer's market counts.

Summer tends to come with vacations, cookouts, sports schedules, later nights, and a whole lot of life happening. That doesn't mean you have to abandon movement until September.

Instead of asking, "When am I going to work out?" try asking, "How can I move my body today?"

Because wellness isn't about perfectly following a workout plan. It's about finding ways to stay active while still enjoying your life.

And if your workout this week looks more like a long walk, yard work, or chasing kids through the sprinkler than a gym session, that still counts. ☀️
