Grateful for the ongoing support of Jake’s Place and The Broom Tree

Sometimes it’s good to take a minute and remember what we are about.

The Broom Tree is a non profit that is composed of 12 Cenla members who desire to help families. Currently our board consists of only women. Over the years, since its beginning, the board has had wonderful members come and go as their personal lives have allowed the time to put in to this organization. It is a group who works alongside some of our most fragile in this community - attempting to make connections and support along the way with families who often feel alone on the journey they are on. There are teachers, therapists, medical professionals, and parents who work together to provide opportunities in the community for families of children with special needs.

Many of the board members come from different cultural, spiritual, and educational backgrounds, and those unique backgrounds have shaped and molded each member in to the caring individuals they are today. Whereas The Broom Tree doesn’t have any religious affiliation, we do believe in treating every family we come in contact with with love and meeting them where they’re at. We are continuously grateful for the individuals, other nonprofits, and local businesses who choose to help this organization continue to grow and serve local families. The opinions of board members, family members of the board, and views/opinions of the families we serve in Cenla are all very different and broad. As a board, we are aware that, at times, a difference in opinion can be polarizing. We hope to always maintain a safe space for everyone at our events and at our inclusive play space, Jake’s Place.

But one thing remains the same as it has from the beginning of this journey: The Broom Tree is a collective non profit with one main goal - to support the families of children with special needs right here in Cenla, no matter their background, financial status, ethnicity, religious preference, etc.

Well, summer has officially arrived in Louisiana. ☀️🥵

We had planned to share this update earlier in the week, but between the A/C deciding to keep us on our toes and a few other unexpected adventures, it just didn’t happen.

As many of you know, summer tends to bring a different rhythm around the shop. Between the heat and changes in customer traffic, we’ve decided to adjust our hours for the season.

These summer hours will allow us to better serve our customers while also making the best use of the times when you are actually shopping, grabbing coffee, meeting friends, attending visits, or just stopping in to say hello.

We are so grateful for every person who chooses to support our little corner of the community. Whether you come in once a week or once a month, every purchase, conversation, prayer, and shared moment helps keep these doors open.

Thank you for continuing to support local and for being part of what makes this place so special.

Please note: Any previously scheduled events, meetings, support groups, visits, or private gatherings will continue as planned and will not be affected by these summer hours.
