It has evolved into a multi-hospital system with academic, community and specialty service missions reaching every part of the state and beyond. UMMS is a national and regional referral center for trauma, cancer care, neurocare, cardiac care, women's and children's health and physical rehabilitation. It also has one of the world's largest kidney transplant programs, as well as scores of other programs that improve the physical and mental health of thousands of people daily. UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND MEDICAL CENTER OVERVIEW

Founded in 1823 as the Baltimore Infirmary, the University of Maryland Medical Center is one of the nation's oldest academic medical centers. Located on the West Side of Downtown Baltimore, the Medical Center is distinguished by discovery-driven tertiary and quaternary care for the entire state and region and innovative, highly specialized clinical programs. As we anticipate the opening of the Roslyn and Leonard Stoler Center for Advanced Medicine later this year, we reflect on the remarkable generosity of our philanthropic partners who donated to the Building for Life Campaign. Together, they raised an extraordinary 65M+ in support of the leading-edge facility that will be home to the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center.

With multiple floors dedicated to cancer care, the Stoler Center will transform the experience for both patients and families. We are honored by the philanthropic support that helped make it possible and are excited to see the difference it will make in so many lives.

With prom season underway, we’re reflecting on last month’s community-focused event at the University of Maryland Medical Center and University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus. “The Prom Promise” provided free formal wear to students from partner schools and children of UMMC team members, helping to ease the financial burden of prom season. We are grateful to everyone who participated and wish all students a fun and safe prom!

Thanks to more than $4 million in new philanthropic support, the University of Maryland School of Medicine's Rural-MD Scholars Program is expanding on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. This region faces some of the state’s most significant healthcare shortages, and the program is filling those gaps by providing full-tuition scholarships and specialized training to medical students who commit to practicing on the Eastern Shore for at least four years after residency.

We’re grateful to all those who have invested in this important initiative that is transforming the future of healthcare in Maryland’s rural communities.

We’re thrilled about this recent advance in precision medicine for sickle cell disease at the University of Maryland Medical Center! Physicians have treated Jessica Ceja, a 41-year-old woman from Silver Spring, with her own genetically modified stem cells. This marks the first time this FDA-approved gene therapy has been given to an adult patient in Maryland.

Breakthroughs such as this are accelerated with philanthropy, and we are grateful to our generous donors who are driving progress in the field. Together, we are redefining what’s possible.

Read more about UMMC’s incredible progress and Jessica’s inspiring story!
