Donate Life Maryland honors Detective Hoke's enduring commitment to saving lives. As an organ donor, his service continues—bringing hope and life to individuals and families in need.

Saved by a Donor, a Fallen Hero Becomes One

Today, family members, friends, and colleagues of Homicide Detective Paul Hoke gathered during an Honor Walk at Sinai Hospital. Detective Hoke, who died in the line of duty on January 2, served the residents of Baltimore County for just over 30 years. As an organ donor, Detective Hoke continues to serve others by providing life-saving hope to those in need.

Fellow officers who knew Detective Hoke as both a colleague and more importantly a friend, say, “Paul was always looking to pay it forward. He was supportive and giving. Paul was never known to be a selfish person and always put others above himself. He had a sense of moral duty and a desire to extend others’ lives. When he had his transplant surgery, he was very appreciative of his second chance at life, and I think we can all say he took full advantage of that second shot.”

Following today’s honor walk, a flag was also raised outside the hospital in honor of Detective Hoke’s gift of kindness.

Detective Hoke joined the Baltimore County Police Department in December 1995 as a Cadet. Upon his graduation from the BCoPD Training Academy, Detective Hoke was assigned to Precinct 6-Towson, where he worked from December 1997 until February 2023. At that point, he became a Detective assigned to the Criminal Investigations Bureau’s Violent Crimes Unit. In December 2025, Detective Hoke was assigned to the Department’s Homicide/Missing Persons Unit, a goal of his.
