What a wonderful day at Husson University! We were proud to sponsor the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation's Bangor Take Steps walk yesterday, an event close to our hearts and our community. Organized by Claire Starks, daughter of our own Dr. Michael Starks and Dr. Carolyn Starks, this special walk shines a light on Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, conditions that touch nearly 1 in 100 lives. Thank you to every walker, donor, and supporter who showed up. Together, we're making a difference. 💙

There is no shortage of heart in our Emergency Department. 🌟 Our ED team shows up every single day — and night — ready to care for our community with skill, dedication, and a familiar face when you need it most. This month, the first graders of the Abraham Lincoln School Kindness Club donated handmade cards and blankets for our pediatric patients, and invited our team to their school assembly. We wrapped up the month celebrating our incredible first responders at our Annual EMS Week BBQ with a wonderful community turnout. We are so proud of this team and so grateful to be part of a community that gives back.

We are so proud to celebrate a powerful step forward for survivors across Maine!

Advocates, nurses, and state leaders including Governor Janet Mills, Senator Jill Duson and Representative Holly Stover gathered at St. Joseph Healthcare to mark the launch of statewide sexual assault kit tracking in Maine. This is the kind of progress that reminds us why this work matters so deeply.

We are grateful to the Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MECASA), R**e Response Services, and all of our collaborative community partners. It truly takes a village, and we are honored to stand alongside such compassionate and dedicated advocates.

Our Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) Program is committed to providing quality care for survivors and meeting patients right where they are. Our nurses are here and ready to take that next step with you, on your own time, and on your own terms.

We encourage you to read the full story and share it with someone who needs to hear it. Every voice that champions survivors helps move us forward. 💚

On this Memorial Day, we stand together to remember the brave people who gave their lives for our freedom. Their legacy lives on in the communities they fought to protect, including ours. In their honor. In their memory. Always.

Congratulations Earlene Merrill, CNA, CPCU, our 2026 recipient of the Sunshine Award at St. Joseph Healthcare.

The Sunshine Award recognizes Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) who brighten the days of their patients, families, and co-workers. Honorees are selected based on demonstration of the St. Joseph Hospital Values of Compassion, Integrity, Collaboration, and Excellence.

Erica was nominated by Jamie Guerrette, who shared: “Earlene is so wonderful to work with and treats our patients with such dedicated, compassionate care. She is a knowledgeable and caring team player and goes above and beyond every single day. It’s just who she is. As nurses, we have a lot to balance, and when she is your partner, you know you will be able to get the job done, take great care of patients, and make sure the care lives up to the St. Joe’s reputation.

If you ask one of her patients who their CNA is for the day, they never say they don’t know. Every patient assigned to her knows her well because they’ve received such excellent care. It’s also very common for her to help provide care for other patients, help other staff, or provide a little extra TLC to brighten patients’ days. She always advocates for patients, even when it may ruffle feathers, and she helps be a voice for those who aren’t always able to speak up for themselves.

She’s just a wonderful and genuine person in all that she does. You know you’re going to have a great day, and your patients will get great care, when she’s on your team.”

Congratulations Earlene! If you'd like to nominate a St. Joe's CNA for The Sunshine Award, fill out a nomination form in person, by mail, or online by visiting: https://pulse.ly/uerl9iv2f4
