Reach Wellness • Jennifer Allen Newton, Health Coach I coach people who want to enhance their well-being, regain vitality and boost brain health.

Jennifer Allen Newton, National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) • Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach (FMCHC) • ReCODE 2.0 Certified Coach (Bredesen Protocol) • HeartMath Certified Practitioner

I'm a graduate of the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy, where I received my training in health coaching, functional medicine and positive psychology. I received my Bachelor of

Science in Communication from Northwestern University and did graduate work in adult learning and development. For the past 25 years I have worked with national and global companies as a communications strategist, writer and consultant focusing on health, technology and green/sustainable business. My involvement with functional medicine began about a dozen years ago on a business trip when I met the President of the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) on an airplane. I had never heard of functional medicine before, and that wonderful, serendipitous conversation led to some work with IFM as well as some profound health and healing experiences for myself and my family as patients of functional medicine doctors. In 2008 I was invited to join the IFM Board of Directors, on which I served for 8½ years. After my tenure there, I joined the Board of Advisors for the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy, on which I currently (and enthusiastically) serve. I live on a small farm outside of Portland, Oregon with my husband / business partner, a scruffy dog, five chickens, three Shetland sheep and a lot of deer wandering through the yard. In my spare time, I enjoy writing, cooking, making music, traveling, photography and tending our organic garden and orchard.

Do not drink this and please don’t let your kids anywhere near it!

Crumbl just launched “Dirty Sodas.” Finally, some honest marketing.

One of these drinks contains 186 grams of sugar. For reference, that’s equivalent to:

- Almost 5 cans of Coke
- 2 pints of Ben & Jerry’s
- 29 Krispy Kreme donuts
- 40 Oreos
..except you’re drinking it through a straw.

The American Heart Association recommends no more than 25 grams of added sugar per day for women and 36 grams for men.

This one drink delivers roughly 5 to 7 days’ worth of added sugar in a single sitting.

And your body knows it.

When you consume that much sugar at once, your blood sugar spikes violently, triggering a massive insulin response. Your liver gets flooded with fructose it can’t process, converting it directly to fat. Your dopamine system lights up like a slot machine, making you crave more.

This is a metabolic wrecking ball that sets the stage for insulin resistance, fatty liver disease, type 2 diabetes, and chronic inflammation.

“Dirty Soda” might be the most accurate product name I’ve seen all year.

Please do not drink this.

This is so good! As a health coach, I see a lot of this and help people find their most effective ways to deal with it.

This is a good overview. I went the Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach route, and I’ve never regretted it. Not only did it prepare me for National Board Certification, I learned from some of the top minds in functional medicine and I developed a deeper, richer understanding of systems approaches to health that consider the interrelationships among mind, body, environment and social supports. I love my work!

Both roles support behavior change, but they’re built on different frameworks.

Certified Health Coaches typically focus on lifestyle habits, goal setting, and accountability.

Functional Medicine Certified Health Coaches build on that foundation with a deeper understanding of systems biology, root-cause approaches, and personalized health strategies.

They are often trained to work alongside clinicians, supporting clients as they navigate more complex health challenges, while also being well-positioned to establish and grow private practices.

Same foundation, but different level of depth, scope, and integration.
