Dried Herbs 101:
Turmeric

This month we have been spotlighting dry herbs we carry locally at the Apothecary that assist with PAIN RELIEF.
Instead of waking up and popping an over-the-counter painkiller to get you through the work day, you can turn to herbal remedies.
Always chat with Melissa about your unique concerns and any medications you may be taking before beginning a herbal regimen so she can recommend the correct herb and dosage for your needs.
These educational posts are for you to learn about our dried herbs before stopping in to purchase some for your home.
Please use caution if you are purchasing herbs from anyone other than a registered botanist or from any online shops.

There are so many amazing things I can say about Turmeric.
Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory herb that also provides pain relief.
The Turmeric I carry here at the Apothecary is available in tea cut (for your morning and evening tea) and powder.
Turmeric can be added to a capsule, mixed in a tea, or added to your favorite recipes.
FACT: Most people do not consume as much turmeric as they should for optimal medicinal benefits.
FACT: If you add Black Pepper to your Turmeric regimen you increase the absorption by 1000% (sounds crazy I know)

The spice section at your local grocery store may carry Turmeric Spice, but it doesn't have the same potency as the dried herb I carry here at the Apothecary.
You never know how strong those spices are or how long they have been sitting on the counter or in a distribution factory. My herbs are fresh and offer optimal health benefits.

I also carry a Turmeric Chai Tea Blend and Anti-Inflammatory loose tea blend at the Apothecary.

I am happy to now offer Sweetgrass Braids here at the Apothecary!
I've had the smaller sage bundles of sweetgrass, but now I have it in 20" as well.

One of my favorite books is called Braiding Sweetgrass.
It talks about how the act of braiding sweetgrass requires two people, and sitting together in nature while braiding can be a very intimate, healing, and grounding activity to complete together.

Sweetgrass is known as the 'Hair of Mother Earth' and is typically burned similar to sage to clear energy and pathogens in your environment.

Food poisoning is a very real thing - but many don't understand that it's actually caused by a parasite until the recent scare.
Earthley posted a study conducted in 2021 in Egypt on the same parasite that has been running rampant in green lettuce.
They tested two groups of mice with a prescription antibiotic used for food poisoning vs Curcurmin (a version of Turmeric).

After 10 days both groups of mice reported relief.
Around 70%~ of the group of mice receiving the antibiotic had cleared the parasite.
Around 90%~ of the group of mice receiving Curcurmin had cleared the parasite.

Then, the mice with the antibiotic started to experience regrowth of the parasite.
It never came back in the mice given Curcurmin for the full length of the study.

It's always interesting to ready studies on prescriptions vs natural remedies.

So what can you do if you have experienced food poisoning?
After clearning the parasite from your system with Curcurmin or Turmeric, you will also need to address your damaged gut.
Vital Gut Renew includes Slippery Elm and L Glutamine which helps heal the lining of your gut.

It does take several months to completely clear the parasite and heal your gut lining.

Wild Lettuce is an herb that we use sparingly and with caution, as it is a very strong pain reliever.
It doesn't taste great - but it helps with body pain and it works amazing.
You can also purchase wild lettuce in tincture form if the tea flavor is too strong for you.
