Making a steam blend for my hubby. Whenever he gets sick, it goes right into his lungs and gets stuck. Teas and tinctures are great but sometimes you need to go direct. Steams are like a topical application of the volatile herbal properties. This one has a combination of herbs in boiling water and a drop or two of a couple essential oils. This amount of herb will make 3 to 4 steams. I’ve included measurements here, but usually I just make piles in a proportion that looks right based on which herbs should be dominant in the blend and which should be supporting.
¼ cup each of marshmallow tops, rosemary, mullein and chamomile
⅛ cup each of yarrow tops, peppermint, thyme.
Blend well and use about 3/4 cup in 2 quarts of boiling water.
Essential oils: add these directly to the steam 1 drop each eucalyptus & tea tree; up to 5 drops lavender or lavender as an herb to your blend. If you’re using essential oils, you want to make sure to keep your eyes closed while steaming!
