Pain that starts at the base of your skull and shoots upward may be worth mentioning to your doctor. Occipital neuralgia can cause sharp, electric pain along the back of the head, and a clinician can help assess what’s behind recurring head pain.

When even a light touch hurts, the pain is real.

Allodynia is pain caused by something that normally shouldn’t be painful—like clothing brushing against the skin or someone gently touching your arm. It can occur with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), where the nervous system becomes unusually sensitive.

CRPS can also involve burning or throbbing pain, swelling, changes in skin temperature or color, and difficulty moving the affected area.

Pain isn’t always something you can see from the outside. Understanding what’s happening in the nervous system is an important part of understanding CRPS.

Why does your back doctor ask if you smoke? 🚬 Your lungs aren’t the only concern.

Smoking can interfere with the blood supply that helps nourish your spinal discs and may contribute to disc degeneration over time.

It’s not the only cause of back pain, and quitting won’t reverse existing disc damage—but smoking is a risk factor worth addressing with your doctor.

Where you feel pain doesn’t always tell the whole story. 👀

Your SI joint connects your spine to your pelvis, and irritation in this area can feel like low back or buttock pain.

Finding the source means looking beyond the location—how you move, where you’re tender, and what makes it worse all help guide an evaluation.

The first step? Understanding what’s causing your symptoms.

Sciatica isn’t one-size-fits-all. The pain may travel along the same nerve, but the reason that nerve is irritated can be different from person to person.
That’s why treatment should start with identifying what’s actually causing your symptoms—not choosing a procedure first. Depending on the diagnosis, options may include physical therapy, exercise, medications, injections, or other treatments.
If you’ve been diagnosed with sciatica, what’s the biggest question you still have?

Trouble reaching overhead or behind your back? If you have diabetes, a stiff, painful shoulder is worth paying attention to. Frozen shoulder can develop gradually—and brushing it off may delay getting help.
Talk to your provider if your shoulder pain and limited movement aren’t improving.

Living with chronic pain can make it feel like life keeps getting smaller—but your goals should be part of the conversation.
Whether you want to get back to work, walk with your spouse, play with your kids, or simply move with less pain, tell your provider what matters most to you. Treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all, and there may be medication and non-medication options depending on your situation.
Start with hope. Know your goals. Ask questions. And take the next step toward getting the right care.

A sneeze causing a spinal fracture sounds impossible… but in someone with severe osteoporosis, it can happen. 👀
When the vertebrae become weak enough, even coughing, sneezing, bending, or lifting can sometimes trigger a compression fracture.
New or sudden back pain after a minor movement shouldn’t always be brushed off as a pulled muscle.

AI can be a powerful tool for learning more about your symptoms, understanding different conditions, and discovering questions or treatment options you may want to discuss.
But it shouldn’t replace your doctor.
Use AI to become more informed and more involved in your healthcare, then bring what you’ve learned to a qualified provider who can look at your full history, symptoms, imaging, and individual needs.
AI can be a great place to start. Your healthcare provider should still be part of the conversation.

Knee pain can come from a lot of different places — and the details matter.

Where does it hurt? When do you notice it most? What makes it better or worse?

Those questions can give your doctor important clues about what may be contributing to your pain and help guide the next steps in treatment.

So the next time your doctor starts asking a lot of questions about your knee pain, there’s a reason behind every one of them.

Where do you feel your knee pain the most?
