How do you define meditation?

Cambridge Dictionary defines meditation as “the act of giving your attention to only one thing, either as a religious activity or as a way of becoming calm and relaxed”. But as Bhuvanesh Awasthi from Macquarie University’s Department of Cognitive Science points out, there is a struggle for a true universal definition due to lack of understanding of the many types and uses of meditation.

There are many types of meditation, with the three primary types being: meditation for relaxation, meditation for mindfulness, and meditation for attention.

Meditation is something that can be done anywhere, anytime. Just 5-10 minutes in the shower, in your car before you walk into work, or before you go to bed can have numerous health benefits such as anxiety reduction, lowered blood pressure, and improved neural connections in the brain.
