Protein deficiency doesn’t always look like “not enough muscle.”

Sometimes it looks like more hair shedding, brittle nails, feeling run down, slower recovery, or simply not feeling quite like yourself.

But here’s the important part: none of these symptoms automatically mean you’re low in protein. Iron status, thyroid function, hormones, overall calorie intake, stress, sleep, digestion and other factors can create very similar symptoms.

That’s why we don’t guess from one symptom. We look at the whole picture.

For a lot of women, one of the first things worth checking is surprisingly simple: Are you actually eating enough protein consistently?

Not just at dinner. Not just a shake after the gym. Enough throughout the day to support muscle, recovery, hormones, immune function and overall health.

And just as important: are you actually breaking down and absorbing that protein well?

DM me “PROTEIN” and I’ll help you figure out how much protein you need for your goals and make sure you’re breaking down and absorbing it properly.

Save this for later + send it to the friend who’s always saying, “I know I probably need more protein.” 🌿

Everyone warns you about what happens to your body after kids… but it doesn’t have to be that way.

10 years ago, I was doing CrossFit religiously. I was working out HARD and thought I was doing everything I was supposed to do.

But I wasn’t fueling my body properly, I was probably drinking a little more than I should 😅, and I had PCOS and insulin resistance without even knowing it.

I thought working out more and eating “healthy” should automatically equal results.

But over the years, I started learning how much more goes into changing your body than simply calories and workouts.

I learned how to fuel for muscle instead of constantly trying to eat less. I became more intentional with strength training. I paid attention to recovery, stress, hormones, blood sugar and what my body was actually telling me.

And eventually, nutrition and fitness stopped feeling like something I was constantly “doing” and became a lifestyle that actually works for me.

That’s also why I’m so passionate about looking deeper when someone tells me, “I’m eating well and working out, but nothing is changing.”

Because you CAN be doing a lot of the right things and still struggle to lose fat or gain muscle if you don’t understand what may be happening underneath the surface.

Over the past few days, I’ve been breaking down some of those hidden pieces in our blood work analysis — including markers within the CMP, CBC, thyroid, hormones, glucose regulation and more.

Your labs don’t tell the entire story, but they can give us valuable clues about where we may need to dig deeper.

If you feel like you’re doing everything right but your body still isn’t responding the way you think it should, DM me “CONSULT” and we’ll schedule a consultation to talk through your goals and whether a lab review could be helpful for you.

We have THE. BEST. TEAM. I’m so proud of our team, it’s not just their knowledge but how much they truly care about each individual! I hope one day you’re lucky enough to find out 😉

But all is this is the stuff we do inside coaching. Next week, I’m teaching a free blood work workshop so you can finally understand what your labs are telling you and stop guessing about your body.

If the weight won’t budge, your energy is gone, or your cycle feels off, your labs may hold the answer. I’ll show you how to read them through a nutrition and lifestyle lens so you can actually do something about it.

🩸 The most overlooked health tool is probably sitting in your patient portal right now.

Most people look at their lab results, see the word “normal,” and move on.

But your routine blood work can tell us so much more than whether something is simply high or low. It can provide valuable clues about what’s happening inside your body and help guide conversations about your health.

Your labs may offer insight into:
✨ Metabolic health
✨ Blood sugar regulation
✨ Cholesterol and cardiovascular health
✨ Protein and muscle status
✨ Hydration and electrolyte balance
✨ Iron and oxygen-carrying capacity
✨ Vitamin and nutrient status
✨ Liver and kidney function
✨ Thyroid and hormone health
✨ Inflammation and immune function

While routine blood work doesn’t tell the whole story or diagnose every condition, it can help identify patterns, monitor progress over time, and highlight areas that may benefit from further evaluation.

One of my favorite parts? Many of these markers can be influenced by the choices you make every day—nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, and hydration all play an important role in your overall health.

Understanding your labs isn’t about becoming your own doctor or obsessing over every number. It’s about learning what those numbers mean so you can ask better questions, make informed decisions, and take an active role in your health.

💬 If you could pick ONE lab marker to understand better, what would it be? Drop it in the comments—I may cover it during my workshop!

These 5 white blood cell markers can sometimes give us clues about inflammation and how your immune system is responding. They can’t diagnose gut issues on their own, but when paired with your symptoms and health history, they can help us decide whether it’s worth digging deeper.

✨ Neutrophils (Some functional practitioners prefer ~40–60%.)
Can increase with inflammation, stress, infection, or higher cortisol. Looking at the balance between neutrophils and lymphocytes can provide additional context, but it doesn’t diagnose a specific condition.

✨ Lymphocytes (~24–42%.)
Help fight infections. Higher or lower levels can happen for many reasons, so we always interpret them as part of the bigger picture.

✨ Monocytes (~2–7%.)
May be elevated with ongoing inflammation or while your body is recovering from an infection.

✨ Eosinophils (~0.5–3%.)
Can be elevated with allergies, certain parasitic infections, or some gastrointestinal conditions.

✨ Basophils (~0–1%.)
Can increase with allergic or inflammatory responses and are most helpful when viewed alongside your other lab markers.

💡 The key isn’t one number—it’s the pattern.

A CBC isn’t a gut health test, but it can provide valuable clues when someone is dealing with bloating, fatigue, digestive symptoms, or feeling stuck despite eating well and exercising.

That’s why we don’t just look at calories and macro, we look at your symptoms, your lifestyle, and your labs to help determine whether there’s a deeper issue worth investigating.

If you’ve been doing “everything right” and still aren’t seeing progress, it may be time to look deeper instead of simply eating less or doing more cardio.

Most women come to me doing all the right things, and still not moving. Nine times out of ten, the answer is in their labs. Nobody just took the time to look.

Here’s what we watch for:

🔹 Low B12 or folate → survival mode, not fat burning mode
🔹 Sluggish thyroid → slow metabolism, low energy, stalled weight loss
🔹 Low protein → no muscle, no metabolism, no results
🔹 Low saturated fat → your s*x hormones need cholesterol. Full stop.
🔹 Elevated inflammation → could be pointing to gut dysfunction, hidden infections, even parasites quietly wrecking your hormones for years
🔹 Chronic under-eating → tanked thyroid, lost muscle, zero fat loss

This is root cause nutrition. We connect the dots conventional medicine doesn’t have time for.

Functional lab interpretation is included in our 1:1 coaching or available à la carte if you just want the deep dive.
